Abstract: In the Cooperatives of Saving and Credit the managerial ones and the financiers present two types of risks to themselves. The financial risks assumed by the associates who provide the financing and capital for the good performance in the financial activities. In the financial risks the market risk is being understood like the changeability that can exist in the interest rates, prices and exchange rates. The market risk was identified in the change of the active interest rate in the Cooperatives of Saving and Credit of the city of Ambato. To know the impact of the risk of market in the profitability of the COAC's the VaR was used, this one measures the lost maxim that can appear in a time horizon at a significancia level in normal conditions of the market. The not paramétrico method, historical simulation was applied thinking that a strong oscillation exists; in the year 2010 a risk of 6,00 % appeared, in the year 2011 to 2014 risk did not exist, nevertheless for the year 2015 it turns to present a risk of 2,45 %. I verify that the market risk affects to the profitability by means of the simple linear retrogression and we think that these financial institutions must present profitability of 29 % when risk does not exist, if its profitability appears one per cent of risk it must be 0,7 %, therefore we conclude that these institutions are not attractive since they do not compensate the assumed risk.
