Resumen : The present research aimed to identify the relationship between alcohol consumption and self-esteem in high school students of the "Unidad Educativa Pujilí", in the province of Cotopaxi, Pujilí canton, the research was carried out on a total population of 390 students from both genders aged 14 to 21 years. For the exploration of the variable alcohol consumption was assessed with the Alcohol Dependence Disorders Identification Questionnaire (AUDIT); On the other hand, the self-esteem variable was evaluated using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSG). Hypothesis testing was performed using the Chi - Square (x2) statistical method, which allowed the existence of a relationship between the variables alcohol consumption and self - esteem in the studied population to be verified, with the adolescent population being in low self - esteem, ingests this substance and that its consumption can possibly affect in academic, social and familiar areas in which it develops. As well, the distribution in terms of alcohol consumption, the majority of the population focused on risk consumption; while in the self-esteem levels a higher proportion in medium and low self-esteem was evidenced. Therefore, the present research was able to contribute with empirical data on the influence of alcohol consumption on self-esteem in adolescents, a problem that directly affects the normal development of adolescents.
Descripción : La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar la relación entre el consumo de alcohol y autoestima en los estudiantes de bachillerato de la “Unidad Educativa Pujilí”, de la provincia de Cotopaxi, cantón Pujilí, la investigación se realizó a un población total de 390 estudiantes de ambos géneros con edades comprendidas entre 14 a 21 años. Para la exploración de la variable consumo de alcohol se valoró con el Cuestionario de Identificación de los Trastornos debido al Consumo de Alcohol (AUDIT); por otro lado, la variable de autoestima se evaluó mediante la Escala de Autoestima Rosenberg (RSG). Para la verificación de hipótesis se utilizó el método estadístico Chi – Cuadrado (x2), el cual permitió comprobar la existencia de relación entre las variables consumo de alcohol y autoestima en la población estudiada, siendo la población adolescente ubicada en una autoestima baja la que mayormente ingiere esta sustancia y que su consumo posiblemente puede afectar en áreas: académicas, sociales y familiares en las que se desenvuelve. Así también, la distribución en cuanto al consumo de alcohol, la mayor parte de la población se centró en el consumo de riesgo; mientras que en los niveles de autoestima se evidencio una mayor proporción en autoestima media y baja. Por lo tanto, la presente investigación logró aportar con datos empíricos acerca de la influencia del consumo de alcohol sobre la autoestima en los adolescentes, problema que afecta de manera directa en el desarrollo normal del mismo.
