Abstract: In the following experimental work the biological filter based on orange peel was analyzed with physical-chemical analysis such as: Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5), Hydrogen Potential (pH), Suspended Solids Total (SST), Total Solids (ST), Oils and Fats also performed a microbiological analysis of total and fecal coliforms. The filter was evaluated in a period of 30 days, in which samples were taken twice a week, time needed to be able to analyze and compare the results and parameters mentioned, the structure of the filter was made in wood, separated in three spaces where the aerator vessels would be placed. When obtaining the results of the physical-chemical and microbiological analyzes, it is established that certain parameters comply with the current legislation of the Unified Legislation of the Ministry of the Environment (TULSMA), and it was observed that the efficiency of the filter improves towards the second week of analysis and from there the process of decay of the shell is increasing and the values of contamination begin to rise until values close to the one of the raw water. The orange peel can be used as a filter element for an effluent from a poultry slaughterhouse, but its efficiency will depend on constant maintenance, the orange peel should be changed every fortnight, and adequate washing and drying must also be carried out. In addition, the material must be accompanied by primary pre-treatments that improve the efficiency of the filter. The purpose of this research is to provide information about the use of orange peel as an unconventional filter material, which has been shown to help reduce the contamination values of an effluent.
