Resumen : In the present work a biofiltration system with the use of peat bed as filtering material, for the removal of contaminating parameters such as DBO5,DQO and hexavalent chromium from the tanning industry was carried out, for this, raw wastewater samples were taken initial and final filtered wastewater. By observing the amount of toxic material that is expelled to the common sewage system, it is a matter of looking for practical, economic, and sustainable solutions that help to diminish these effects of contamination, currently Ambato has an alarming number of deaths from stomach cancer, this it is affected by the use of contaminated water in the different irrigations of the area, therefore it affects the final consumer. The project was developed in the tanning industry, given the need to live in a better environment, society is obliged to reduce these pollutants that are expelled in the water, thanks to previous investigations we can highlight the peat bed as an effective material in the removal of impurities and take it as the protagonist of our project. The analyzes carried out will show us the capacity of the filtering material used, these analyzes were taken in a period of 90 days, collecting samples every 10 days and taking them to the laboratory for their respective analysis.
