Abstract: El objetivo de esta investigación es demostrar la importancia de las pymes en la ciudad de Latacunga como fuentes generadoras de empleo. Este trabajo está basado en la investigación documental que permite determinar la evolución de las pymes y las grandes empresas y su contribución en la generación de empleo para la ciudad de Latacunga, mediante la utilización de dos indicadores principales como son el número de empresas y el personal ocupado en este sector en el período 2012 – 2017. Las pymes son un motor fundamental en la economía no solo local sino para un país, principalmente porque son importantes entes en la generación de empleo y a la vez contribuyen de manera positiva a la economía. Para indicar que las pequeñas y medianas empresas son entes generadoras de empleo se realizó un análisis del crecimiento de las pequeñas y medianas empresas mediante tablas y gráficos para mostrar cual es el incremento anual y así dar a conocer en cuánto influye en la generación de empleo. Después de haber realizado la investigación se llegó a la conclusión que la creación de las pequeñas y medianas empresas, son importantes para la generación de empleo y la mejora de la economía de la ciudad de Latacunga, esto se da gracias a la innovación y a la creación de nuevos emprendimientos realizadas por todo tipo de personas.
Description: The objective of this research is to demonstrate the importance of SMEs in the city of Latacunga as sources of employment. This work is based on documentary research that allows to determine the evolution of SMEs and large companies and their contribution in generating employment for the city of Latacunga, through the use of the main indicators such as the number of companies and the personnel employed in this sector in the period 2012 - 2017. SMEs are a fundamental driver in the economy not only locally but mainly in the country, mainly because they are important in generating employment. To indicate that small and medium enterprises are job generating entities, an analysis of the growth of small and medium enterprises was carried out through tables and graphs to show what the annual increment is and to let people know how much it influences the generation of employment. After having carried out the research, it was concluded that the creation of small and medium enterprises are important for generating employment and improving the economy of the city of Latacunga. This is thanks to innovation and creation. of new undertakings carried out by all kinds of people.
