(Universidad Técnica de Ambato/ Facultad de Ciencias de Salud /Carrera de Enfermería, 2023-09-28) Caisaluisa Quimbita, Leydy Dayely; Herrera López, José Luis
The present research was developed with the objective of "determining the knowledge on preventive measures for sexually transmitted infections in adolescents, taking as a reference the population of the Catorce de Julio-Juan Abel Echeverría Educational Unit" for which the quantitative approach of cross-sectional design was followed. The census sample consisted of a total of 200 adolescents from the Unidad Educativa Catorce de Julio-Juan Abel Echeverría, who responded to a survey to collect information on knowledge of STIs: 59% were female; 55% had already had sexual intercourse, of which 47% had sexual intercourse between the ages of 15 and 19; 82% indicated that in their first intercourse they could become pregnant; 57% used condoms as a safe method to prevent STDs; 75% used barrier methods; 18% considered that they could not become pregnant in their first intercourse and therefore did not protect themselves; 8% did not use contraceptive methods; 89% considered that the abstinence method was not to have sexual intercourse. It was established that 57% of adolescents in the EU have a high level of knowledge about preventive measures for sexually transmitted infections, although their knowledge is basic, they recognize some sexually transmitte d diseases.
