    This research addressed the study of: "The lexis of recreational reading books and the reading comprehension of students of the tenth grade of General Basic Education of the Unidad Educativa Atenas”. This research began with the approach of the problem through a contextual analysis, which allowed to get a critical analysis in order to justify the research and set objectives to guide the study. After making an analysis of the research background, the variables are set philosophically, legally and theoretically. As a result of this, the hypothesis is posed: The lexis of the reading recreational books has an impact on the reading comprehension. In order to achieve this goal was necessary to apply survey techniques to students and interviews to teachers for having as the result: the level of recreational reading books influences in a positive way in the reading comprehension. This result was verified by the chi-square statistic. Furthermore, conclusions and recommendations were set to finally develop a scientific article as a final report on the research carried out using statistical data, the approaches of different authors on the subject and the theoretical framework previously analyzed
