Connectivity and security in wireless networks are essential for ensuring efficient and safe access to digital resources in educational institutions. This project focuses on diagnosing and improving the wireless network at Unidad Educativa Bolívar. The assessment identified issues such as poor coverage, insufficient network segmentation, and weak security measures, which negatively impacted the network’s performance and the user experience. To address these issues, the network was redesigned by optimizing its physical and logical configuration. The optimization process included analyzing channel interference, implementing VLANs to organize traffic and enhance security, and strategically relocating access points to improve coverage. Tools such as Acrylic Wi-Fi Heatmaps were used to simulate and verify the improved coverage, while AutoCAD was utilized to create accurate institutional maps. International standards were also applied for organizing and labeling cables. During the implementation, a complete backup of configurations was performed, outdated equipment in the data center was replaced, and advanced security features were configured. These included WPA2-AES encryption for all access points, VLAN implementation, and the creation of specific rules in Mikrotik routers. The results demonstrated significant improvements in connectivity, coverage, and security, enabling more efficient and secure access to digital resources.
