Mg.Since ancient times, man has used medicinal plants to cure their diseases, hence with the passage of time has been created a knowledge of plant remedies that have formed the basis of modern medicine. Therefore, the present investigation had the objective of characterizing the use of medicinal plants with tranquilizing effect in the Parish of Marcos Espinel of the Santiago de Pillaro Canton. For the development of the project is carried out through a study with quantitative, observational and descriptive approach that included 234 people from the Parish Marcos Espinel of Santiago de Pillaro Canton to whom a survey was applied to know the type of medicinal plants that are most used as a tranquilizing effect. The investigation allowed to conclude that the plants most used for their tranquilizing effects are: lemon balm with 47%, valerian 13%, chamomile 13% and cedron 8%, the most frequent administration mode is infusion with 92.3% and that in the Marcos Espinel Parish 80% of inhabitants recognize that medicinal plants have an effective tranquilizing effect for the relief or reduction of anxiety, despair, fright or insomnia.
