Background: Breastfeeding plays an essential and irreplaceable role in child nutrition, which is why interventions that promote and protect this practice are currently being sought. Objective: to raise the level of knowledge and promotion of breastfeeding in new mothers through educational strategies. Methods: An applied research, educational intervention type, quasi-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional was carried out during the months of February and March 2023 with a group of 45 mothers. As collection instruments, a questionnaire on knowledge about breastfeeding was used, which through 14 questions classifies knowledge as good, regular and bad. Results: Before the educational intervention, the level of general knowledge of the first-time mothers was regular in 60%, the level of knowledge regarding the importance of breastfeeding was adequate in 57.77% and regarding breastfeeding techniques it was of 45.92%. After the intervention, the level of general knowledge was good at 100%, regarding the importance of breastfeeding the level of knowledge reached was 93% and regarding breastfeeding techniques, 90.93%. Conclusions: The educational strategies for the promotion of breastfeeding applied in the present study were effective, because the mothers went from a regular level of knowledge to a good one, which is significant and beneficial for the effective feeding of the newborn.
