(Universidad Técnica de Ambato/ Facultad de Ciencias de Salud /Carrera de Enfermería, 2023-09-28) Masaquiza Chango, Jessenia Maribel; Guarate Coronado, Yeisy Cristina
Introduction: In health care institutions, the health care team and nursing students, during their hospital internships, witness death, considered as a process that exists in life, therefore, the attitude and coping with this situation is important.Objetive:To determine the attitudes and coping with the death of nursing students. Methods. Quantitative, deductive approach, through a statistical analysis. Similarly, it has a non-experimental design, cross-sectional and correlational scope. As an instrument, the Collett - Lester Fear of Death Scale and the Bugen Scale of Coping with Death were applied to a sample of 74 nursing interns who had previous experiences related to the death process, either in the environment of their practice or a relative. Results. It was determined that 100% of the study participants have an inadequate coping with death. According to 28% they have an attitude of fear of death; 22% indicate an attitude of acceptance of escape; 20% show an attitude of avoiding death. Finally, 15% have expressed attitudes of acceptance of accuracy and neutral acceptance. Conclusions: Through this study it is possible to determine that nursing students have an inadequate coping with death and an attitude of fear of death, which means that being in contact with the patient at the end of his life affects him emotionally, taking him to feel guilty for not having succeeded in prolonging the patient's life.
