“Parálisis facial recidivante como consecuencia del síndrome de Melkersson Rosenthal”.
(Universidad Técnica de Ambato - Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud - Carrera de Terapia Física, 2018-05-01) Mena Guzmán, Mónica Michelle; Cobo Sevilla, Verónica De Los Ángeles Lcda. MSc.
The present clinical case analysis entitled "FACIAL PALSY RECIDIVAL AS A RESULT OF MELKERSSON ROSENTHAL SYNDROME", refers to a 38-year-old female patient diagnosed with Melkersson Rosenthal Syndrome, who has suffered four recurrent episodes of facial palsy, late diagnosis discovered by a neurologist after the third episode, because probably the other signs and symptoms characteristic of the syndrome in question were not clearly evidenced, which are: orofacial edema and plicata tongue This syndrome is somewhat unknown, since only a prevalence of 0.08% in the general population has been reported. The patient was treated with drugs and through physiotherapy, with successful results, it is striking that a Neurologist did not consider the referral to the Physiotherapy service during the 4th episode, but was satisfied with the result obtained in the patient's improvement, with the interventions made did not appreciate any type of prolonged disability as functional, psychological or aesthetic sequelae. With this background we propose an alternative physiotherapy treatment aimed at patients suffering from facial palsy, which is guided according to innovative protocols and guidelines. It is also recommended that when professionals find cases of facial palsy, consider the possibility of a Melkersson Rosenthal Syndrome.
