MITOS Y VERDADES DE LA LACTANCIA MATERNA. UN ESTUDIO DE ACTUALIZACIÓN
(Universidad Técnica de Ambato/ Facultad de Ciencias de Salud /Carrera de Nutrición y Dietética, 2024-09-25) Meneses Ruiz, Wendy Jamilet; Arteaga Almeida, Cristina Alexandra
This study aimed to investigate the myths and realities related to breastfeeding (LM) that could influence its premature discontinuation. For this purpose, a systematic review of the relevant scientific literature was conducted, covering the period from 2018 to 2024. Objective: to identify, classify and differentiate between myths, beliefs and incorrect perceptions about breastfeeding, assessing their impact on mothers' decision to initiate or continue this practice. Several aspects were explored, such as mothers' concerns that could obstruct the initiation or continuation of breastfeeding, the causes of abandonment of this practice and the baby's health, nutrition myths during breastfeeding. The methodology employed included the application of advanced bibliographic techniques for the extraction of data from a variety of sources, including books, specialized journals, and both qualitative and quantitative empirical studies, in addition to the analysis of specific cases, of which there were a total of 37. The results highlight the importance of debunking myths about breastfeeding through evidence-based education at both prenatal and postnatal stages, actively promoting breastfeeding in communities, implementing policies that support its practice, and ensuring the creation of supportive environments that foster this essential practice.
