(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería en Sistemas, Electrónica e Industrial. Carrera de Ingeniería Industrial, 2025-02) Suarez Núñez Abel Alejandro; Carranza Garcés Ángel Mauricio
The national market exhibits a wide array of products manufactured abroad, highlighting the critical role and integration of the importation process within the country’s economy. This research focuses on analyzing the costs associated with importing a new line of automotive paint for Suárez y Oña Distribuidora S.A. Using sales analysis tools and interviews with the managerial and accounting teams, the company’s high-rotation products were identified, with dyes accounting for 50% of total sales contributions. The diagnosis and interpretation of data enabled the prioritization of key items for import, selected for their high demand and potential to enhance the company’s competitiveness. The importation process underscored the feasibility and profitability it could bring to the organization by evaluating technical, quality, and cost criteria. A detailed analysis was conducted covering logistical costs, transportation, tariffs, and customs procedures in compliance with Ecuadorian regulations and customs service requirements. To underscore the process’s efficiency, financial metrics revealed a 40% Internal Rate of Return (IRR), a Return on Investment (ROI) of $0.36 per dollar invested, and a capital recovery period of 4 months and 4 days, demonstrating the project's profitability. Implementing this new product line will allow for portfolio diversification, operational cost reduction, and enhanced competitiveness in the national market. Furthermore, it establishes a solid foundation for future strategies aimed at sector expansion and innovation, positioning the company as a leader in its field.
