    Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis are 2 chronic diseases of the digestive system known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Persistent inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract is a symptom of these conditions, leading to various symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, and fatigue. Nutrition plays a crucial role in the management of IBD, as it can influence the severity of symptoms and quality of life of patients. Nutritional requirements in such IBD patients often experience malabsorption due to inflammation and decreased intestinal absorption. It is essential to ensure an adequate supply of nutrients, including proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. The diet during acute flare-ups should be a modified diet in reducing the burden on the digestive system, which involves the use of specific nutritional formulas or simply modifying food consistency. As for nutritional supplementation in some cases may be necessary an adequate supply of nutrients to maintain optimal nutritional status, low residue diets in some patients may benefit that limits the intake of fibrous foods and difficult to digest which can help the irritation of the gastrointestinal tract, some patients may develop food intolerances such as lactose, avoid to improve gastrointestinal symptoms. Hydration in this type of pathology is very important because the different symptoms can cause dehydration and, in some cases, may require oral rehydration solutions.
