Osteoarthritis or knee osteoarthritis commonly known is a pathology of degenerative origin that afflicts 3.6% of the population worldwide, characterized by pain, edema in the joint and weakness of the quadriceps which prevents adequate mobility in patients. More often in the knee, there are several risk factors that favour its appearance as age, race, sex, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, overweight and occurs more frequently in female patients from 50 years. There are several treatment protocols that have been promoted by different authors, from pharmacological treatments to multicomponent treatments that include the use of strength exercises (isometric and isokinetic), balance and dynamic exercises; among which the use of isometric exercises in the first phase and isokinetic exercises in the second phase highlight, which allows a better compression in the joint. The period of treatment when using this protocol goes from 2 weeks and can be used in the home environment with periodic monitoring by the physiotherapist. To this end, an isometric quadriceps balloon has been created to help in the isometric exercises giving a better reach to the potential to help patients with this pathology

“Detección y análisis de trastornos musculoesqueléticos en adultas mayores usuarias de Chumbi”.
(Universidad Técnica de Ambato - Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud - Carrera de Terapia Física, 2019-09-01) Herrera Yánez, Mónica Lucia; Latta Sánchez, María Augusta Lcda. Mg.
Currently there is no relevant data on the subject in Ecuador, for this reason the research is important for a future study, since it will be investigated on the musculoskeletal disorders that are caused by the postural alterations and the activation of the musculature that make up the band Abdominal in older women users of chumbi, since when performing daily activities in the field this population requires using the musculature of the spine to perform activities that require a lot of muscular effort. The research according to the study method is descriptive and observational, it is also quantitative since the postural test was used and statistical data were handled that the software of the team assesses the muscular activity. The study was carried out in two rural parishes of the Ambato canton, such as Macasto and Apatug. The research line of this study is epidemiology. It is concluded that older women who are users of chumbi have greater postural alteration at the level of the spine and hip, musculoskeletal disorders at the same level of the alteration and muscle activity is decreased in relation to older women who are not users of chumbi.

The main objective of this research was to determine the effects of the physiotherapeutic intervention on pulmonary capacity and respiratory patterns in the elderly of Santa Rosa-Apatug parish. An intervention plan was used in 25 older adults. With an average age of 75.44 years. Of which 16 were women. The treatment was based on Baduanjin exercises and postural re-education. It lasted 10 sessions, 1 session per week, with 30 minutes duration. Lung capacity and respiratory patterns were evaluated with spirometry. It was applied before and after the intervention. Saturation, blood pressure, and heart rate were also assessed before and after each session. Through a doctor. The risk factors to which the population was exposed were measured. With the application of a simple questionnaire. No statistically significant changes were recorded in terms of lung capacity, saturation, blood pressure, systolic and diastolic heart rates. Because the value of P was not less than 0.05. On the other hand, clinical changes were obtained in terms of respiratory patterns. Since in the initial evaluation the total of the participants had abnormal respiratory patterns. And in the final evaluation 72% obtained a normal respiratory pattern. It is also concluded that the sample was subject to risk factors throughout the investigation such as altitude, exposure to biomass, smoking, use of fertilizers, and a genetic predisposition.

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato - Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud - Carrera de Terapia Física, 2019-09-01) Villegas Vargas, Mayra Johanna; Moscoso Córdova, Grace Verónica Lcda. Mg.
Caregivers of dependent persons with disabilities are exposed to several health problems, especially those related to alterations in their posture. It is for this reason that the present study was conducted with the objective of determining postural alterations due to weight overload in the caregiver of people with disabilities who attend the foundations of the city of Pelileo. The research had a qualitative and quantitative approach, a type of descriptive, cross-sectional and exploratory research. It was carried out with a population of 24 caregivers who attended the Corazon de María, San Pedro de Pelileo and San José de Huambaló foundations. The instruments used for the collection of the data were: an initial survey, the Zarit scale (Caregiver Overload Scale), an observation sheet and a postural test through software called PostureScreen Mobile. Once the results of the data were obtained, it was very noticeable that all of the caregivers were female and subsequently, it was concluded that the most significant risk factors were the caregiver's age, the poor postures they adopt and the number of times that they carried out mobilizations or transfers of the dependent people throughout the day, in addition to the fact that the postural alterations in relation to the most altered anatomical segments were in the head: advanced (88%), in the shoulders: asymmetry (92%), in the column vertebral: hypercifosis (38%), hyperlordosis (33%) and postural scoliosis (92%) and in the pelvis: anteversion (54%) and asymmetry (67%). The structures where they felt most discomfort or pain were primarily in the spine, the shoulders and the knees.
