    Prevalencia del síndrome metabólico en el personal de salud

    Introduction: The metabolic syndrome (MS) has affected countless people in recent years, since it has currently harmed mainly people over 20 years of age, with a higher percentage in the female gender according to the sample of this research. Objective: To determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in health personnel. Methods: Descriptive design study with a quantitative approach, where laboratory tests and anthropometric measurements were taken together. The sampling was of the census type since 50 nursing professionals were taken from sentinel hospitals in the city of Ambato. The statistical process was carried out by tabulating the data using the statistical program SPSS 2.0. Results: Among the main ones, Through the analysis carried out it was possible to show that around 30% of the population studied between 20 and 50 years of age, has at least 3 diagnostic criteria of metabolicsyndrome such as: elevated blood pressure, increased body mass index, abdominal perimeter with high risk, higher HOMA index, high levels of basal glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides. Conclusions: Metabolic syndrome is an alteration that affects at least 30% of health personnel, since 18 patients out of 50 participants have more than three diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome, without having an underlying and/or diagnosed disease.

    Aspectos físicos y psicoemocionales en mujeres con obesidad

    Objective present study to: To determine the main affectations in the physical and psycho-emotional aspects in women with obesity, to know the different ways in which they perceive and think about this health problem today. Materials and Methods: Quantitative, cross-sectional descriptive and non-probabilistic study, the Emotional Eating Questionnaire and the Garaulet Body Attitudes Test were applied to 152 women between 19 and 74 years of age with obesity who reside in the Nueva Esperanza neighborhood, during the year 2022. Results: There is a moderate correlation between the eating behaviors and the attitudes towards the body of the women who participated in the research with a correlation coefficient of 0.576 (p. value=0.000), that is to say that the obese women in the study who present alteration in their eating behavior are likely to have greater rejection or negative attitudes towards their own body. Discussion: Various studies corroborate that women with obesity tend to present emotional eating behaviors and a negative attitude towards their body, for which it is necessary to carry out programs to prevent and reduce obesity.

    Hábitos de vida de sobrepeso y obesidad en el período de pandemia por Covid-19

    The pandemic originated by COVID-19, forced the world population to be confined and socially distanced for a long period of time in their homes or different scenarios, reason why they chose to modify their life habits. The personnel most at risk of suffering changes in their daily lifestyles and habits were health personnel. Objective: To identify the lifestyle habits predisposing to develop overweight and obesity during the COVID-19 pandemic in health personnel of the Pediatrics service of the Hospital General Ambato. Methods: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study, without sample calculation, a survey was used, composed of sociodemographic data, anthropometric measurements recorded in 2019 and 2022 from the occupational medical records of health personnel, and the FANTASTIC questionnaire, designed by the Department of Family Medicine of the McMaster University of Canada, adapted and validated by specialists to the Spanish language, to measure and identify people's lifestyles. Results: 38.09% have a normal BMI in relation to a regular lifestyle, while one person had grade I obesity and presented a bad FANTASTIC, however, there is 28.57% of the population with a regular lifestyle habit and overweight. Conclusions: The results shown in this study indicate that, during confinement, the dietary and lifestyle habits of the pediatric population of the Ambato General Hospital underwent transitions, a trend towards regular habit was evidenced.

    El estilo de vida y su relación con la obesidad

    Nos últimos anos, os números do excesso de peso aumentaram dramaticamente. Este problema tem sido associado a mudanças no estilo de vida como resultado de transformações sociais que modificaram a dinâmica do trabalho, do estudo e dos hábitos alimentares. Tendo em conta os problemas acima mencionados, surgiu interesse em escrever este artigo, com o objectivo de determinar o estilo de vida e a sua relação com a obesidade. Para este fim, foi realizado um estudo de investigação quantitativa com um desenho não experimental, transversal e correlacional. A amostra consistiu num total de 229 pessoas, que foram avaliadas utilizando o questionário Lifestyle II da Universidade de Nebraska e o IMC foi calculado utilizando a alturae o peso do questionário de dados sociodemográficos. Os resultados mostram que 61,6% da amostra avaliada tinham excesso de peso e 12,7% eram obesos, 50,7% quase nunca o fizeram e 49,3% só o fizeram por vezes, e 69,9% tinham estilos de vida sedentários. No que diz respeitoà relação entre as variáveis, foi demonstrado através da análise do teste Chi que existe uma dependência entre o estilo de vida e os índices de obesidade com um nível de significância de 5%. Conclui-se que os estilos de vida caracterizados por estilos de vida sedentários e maus hábitos são os principais factores de risco na manifestação do excesso de peso e da obesidade.
