(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Diseño y Arquitectura. Carrera de Diseño de Modas, 2021-02-10) Panchi Olivo, Karen Nicole; Suárez Abril, Eduardo Santiago
Ecuador is the owner of a circuit of popular demonstrations that partly expresses the cultural baggage of the native peoples. The Octave of the Corpus Christi de Pujilí is part of that cultural heritage declared intangible heritage of the nation in 2001, a sumptuous festival that has jealously guards intrinsic values of the pujilian people combined in a cultural syncretism with manifestations and sacred elements of the worldview of the Catholic world. Demonstration that motivated to deploy a study, deepening in regards to the central socio-cultural components of the celebration. The study “Illustration of the clothing of the main characters of the Octave of Corpus Christi de Pujilí”, essentially results from the empirical and incomplete graphic evidence of the characters (alcalde, prioste, oficial tamborero-pingullero, mama danza y danzante) of the traditional festival, also affecting the ignorance of the symbolic meaning of the character and his wardrobe. Therefore, fashion illustration must be the tool that helps in the illustrated representation of the five popular characters and their respective typical costumes, for which, it was necessary to raise the historical evolution of the aesthetic, technical characteristics (production, materials) and symbolic. Study that will finally be registered in an illustrated catalog, with the contributions provided by one of the country's heritage issues. The study is characterized by being qualitative, which is why the methodology used is field and documentary-bibliographic. The exploratory study agreed to collect deep and pertinent information through methods such as: participatory observation, interview and illustrative elements (photographs, illustrations, paintings) of the cultural suits. As well as, from the epistemological dimension it allowed to contrast and overcome the empirical data of the preceding and the most current version of the typical costumes. The illustrative elements collected and their respective analysis is the preamble to generate illustrations of the selected characters, making use of the expression techniques that were studied in the “fashion illustration” section
