Item Análisis multitemporal de la expansión urbana y cambios en el uso del suelo entre los años 2004-2021 de la ciudad de Ambato(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Dirección de Posgrado. Maestría en Gestión Ambiental, 2022-07-26) Carvajal Aldás, Lady Helen; González Jaramillo, Víctor HugoThe Ecuadorian territory undergoes great changes that alter the structures of the cities, the lack of balanced and homogeneous development on the land makes administration and the establishment of laws difficult, for this reason it is necessary to carry out multi temporal studies to know growth trends. This is how the city of Ambato is selected as the study area, being the capital and part of the driving force of the province of Tungurahua, it is important to know its expansion in order to predict and make better decisions in its territorial administration. The objective of this work was to analyze urban growth and changes in land use through the interpretation of satellite images taken from LandSat 7 satellites between the years 2004-2021, where it was concluded that the city has had an expansion directed at the peripheral areas of the cantonal head covering the areas that correspond to the limits of the city, in the same way the urban area within a period of 17 years of 2318.93 ha that it had in 2004 has come to have 7149.24 ha by 2021, increasing the construction area of the city and in turn causing a conversion at the expense of the rural lands that surround the city, so the null hypothesis is accepted, which indicates that the process of urban expansion has caused a change in land use of rural areas in the city of Ambato between the years 2004-2021. On the other hand, in reference to the definition of optimal sites for urban growth, variables such as threats due to mass movements, slope and dangerous events were established, which helped to establish the areas located in the southwest as areas for urban growth. and northeast of the city.Item Estudio de potenciales impactos de la actividad minera en los servicios ecosistémicos de los humedales de Fierro Urco, cantón Saraguro (Loja)(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Dirección de Posgrado. Maestría en Gestión Ambiental, 2022-07-11) Astudillo Aguilar, Diana Vanessa; González Jaramillo, Víctor HugoThe research was conducted in the high Andean Wetlands of Fierro Urco, located between cantones of Loja, Saraguro, Zaruma and Portovelo, the primary information was collected through interviews with 12 key stakeholders from institutions such as Ministerio del Ambiente, Agua Transición Ecológica, Gobierno Provincial de Loja, Gobierno Autónomo Descentralizado Municipal de Loja, Saraguro and Portovelo, Gobierno Autónomo Descentralizado Parroquial de Gualel, El Paraíso de Celén and Morales, as well as organizations such as Colectivo de Defensores del Agua y la Vida and independent activists. In addition, secondary information was systematized through the review of Planes de Ordenamiento Territorial de los cantones y parroquias within the study area, information generated by the Ministerio del Ambiente, Agua Transición Ecológica, studies and research conducted by Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, Universidad Nacional de Loja and non-governmental organizations such as Naturaleza y Cultura Internacional. Maps were made about the location of the study area, land cover and land use, location of the Fierro Urco lake system, water network, watersheds and mining concessions; in addition, shadow maps and topographic relief maps were generated and used as the basis for the other maps mentioned above. Finally, with the information collected, a risk analysis was performed using ISO 31000:2018 as a reference. The main purpose of this research was to identify the potential impacts of mining activity on the ecosystem services of the Fierro Urco wetlands. The main impacts identified are related to the possible effects on water storage and supply, water flow regulation and biodiversity conservation; due to the potential execution of activities for mineral exploitation that may include: complete removal of vegetation coverage, excavation and earthworks, introduction of heavy machinery, deviation of natural water courses, installation of infrastructure, among others.Item Evaluación de la calidad del agua - índice de arsénico en la quebrada Rasuyacu en la parroquia Toacaso del cantón Latacunga(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Dirección de Posgrado. Maestría en Gestión Ambiental, 2022-07-27) Orozco Toapanta, Rita Paulina; González Jaramillo, Víctor HugoThis research constitutes an analysis of the problem of arsenic in the water for agricultural consumption in the Toacaso parish, which is located in the Latacunga canton. The objective of this study is to determine the presence of total arsenic in surface water samples used for consumption in agricultural soils in the Toacaso parish. The evaluation of risks to human health was carried out to estimate the probable risk that is caused by exposure to arsenic through the oral route and the evaluation of the environmental quality of the soils. Arsenic is naturally present at high levels in the groundwater of several countries. Arsenic is highly toxic in its inorganic form. Their greatest threat to public health lies in the use of contaminated water for drinking, preparing food and irrigating food crops. The presence of arsenic in the soil and in the water sources in Toacaso due to natural factors of geological origin associated with the tributaries of the Páramo de los Ilinizas is described. The evaluation of laboratory analyzes and their percentages of arsenic and iron is pertinent and essential, the implementation of a floating islands system (IFA) with the Vetiver species will help us to improve the quality of the water of the reservoirs with difficulties of contamination by heavy metals. already indicated in different irrigation systems that surround the Toacaso parish of the Latacunga canton. To carry out the evaluation of soil contamination and ecological risk, it will be feasible and essential to use indices such as the enrichment factor (FE), the contamination factor (CF) and the Geoaccumulation index (Igeo), the results of the study or the points intervened in the Toacaso parish indicate low to moderate levels of enrichment of (As) and moderate to considerable contamination. Although the level of enrichment in the sediments of the Páramo Ilinizas is severe due to its discharges and tributaries.
