Item “La calidad de sueño como variable asociada a la ideación suicida en estudiantes universitarios”(Carrera de Psicología Clínica, 2018-09-01) Estrella Santamaría, Gabriela Mercedes; Rodríguez Pérez, Mayra LucíaObjective: To determine the association between sleep quality and suicide ideation in university students. Also, to examine the students global sleep quality index and the suicide ideation prevalence by genre. Methods: a correlational cross-sectional study was conducted among 258 medicine, nursing and clinical psychology university students. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and positive and negative suicidal ideation (PANSI) were used to assess sleep quality and suicide ideation respectively. A sociodemographic questionnaire was used to record the personal information and to identify the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the sample was conformed by 221 university students. The 67% (n=148) of the participants were woman. The identified age group was from 19 to 38 years old. The nursing career had the 42% (n=93) of the total sample, while medicine career had the 37% (n=81) and clinical psychology the 21% (n=47). Quality index and suicide ideation had got a bilateral signification <0,05 proving a positive correlation between research variables. A bad quality sleep index was identified in the 64% (n=142) of the students and there was not found a bilateral signification of prevalence between suicide ideation and genre (0,418) in the university students. Conclusion: Bad quality sleep index was associated with the suicide ideation in the university students, with no genre differentiation and most of the sample had a bad quality sleep index.
