Medicinal plants represent vital resources in the treatment of certain diseases. The world population uses them as a means of healing, taking advantage of their effectiveness and the innocuous nature of their active ingredients. The objective of the present investigation was to characterize the use of medicinal plants as an anti-inflammatory analgesic effect in the Salasaca Parish. It was an observational, descriptive, field, cross-sectional and prospective investigation. The sample, calculated with a confidence level of 95%, an accuracy of 3% and a proportion of 5%, was of 214 informants, selected at random by means of a sampling by conglomerates, of the 17 neighborhoods of this parish. A questionnaire was applied consisting of 8 questions, 2 open and 6 closed. The results indicate that women are responsible for health care in the home, so they have greater ancestral knowledge of these resources compared to men. The most used plants were chamomile, flaxseed, plantain and mint. The most used form of preparation is infusion, with a non-specific dosage and frequency. No adverse effects were identified when ingested and no additional or complementary rituals are performed. In conclusion, medicinal plants are very important for the inhabitants in the community to deal with problems of pain and inflammation, taking advantage of the active principles that the plants provide them, this knowledge being transmitted through the experience and wisdom of those who practice, making It is possible that these practices continue to be preserved as a cultural relevant to the population.

The province of Tungurahua is one of the most culturally diverse areas of Ecuador, with a wealth of ancestral knowledge and Andean beliefs, which highlights the systematic use of traditional medicine with plants, in parallel with the conventional health system. The objective of the research was to analyze the preferences of conventional treatment versus treatment with medicinal plants in the community of Lacón del Cantón Ambato. A questionnaire composed of 22 questions was applied to the entire population, represented by 49 informants, one for each existing household in the community. From the analysis of results it was obtained that conventional treatment is selected for its effectiveness in treating acute somatic and traumatic problems. In visceral pain and to cure non-physical problems such as fright, bad air and evil eye, the population prefers treatment with plants, due to its accessibility at any time of the day. Relevance to conventional medicine is assigned to treat and prevent the complications of acute and chronic health somatic problems. It is concluded that conventional medicine has benefits in the majority of health problems and traditional medicine with plants, represents an effective practice to treat some somatic conditions and diseases of supernatural cause.
