This sewerage project focuses on ensuring the proper conduction and processing of sewage and rainwater, an adequate plan for the correct evacuation of these to the bodies of water where they are directed. For the present project, a topographic survey was carried out with the corresponding precision by means of a SOKKIA FX 105 Total Station, data from the current norm in the country was needed, all this to establish the number of inhabitants that would benefit from the project, which consists of 3.8 km of sanitary sewerage and 2.1 km of storm sewerage, which respond to a design flow of 8.36 lt/sec and 1074.51 lt/sec respectively. The wastewater treatment plant was structured with: an inlet channel, a grate, a grit trap, a septic tank, a drying bed, and an upflow biological filter, operating simultaneously to purify contaminants from wastewater from the study area. For the definitive project, it was essential to establish the processes: topographic survey, demographic study, sanitary and storm sewer design plans, design of the wastewater treatment plant, analysis of unit prices (APUS), a referential budget which is of $834 971.84.

In the present experimental work, an Evaluation of the PTAR was carried out in order to verify if it complies with the standards of functionality and efficiency in its processes. The initial works carried out in the treatment plant of the Community began with a tour of the site where the current facilities were known and inspected, then began with a topographic survey that revealed the current state of the treatment plant, for this process a drone was used for the respective aerial photo and a total station to raise the information of the system. Once the field work was finished, the measurement of both inlet and outlet flows was carried out using the volumetric method, during the 7 days for two weeks, in order to determine the day with the highest influx and to know the maximum and minimum flows with which the WWTP works. Once the effluent measurement intakes were completed, the sampling of the inlet and outlet flows was carried out, which were sent to be analyzed in the laboratories of the UNACH, knowing the result of the analysis parameters, we proceeded to compare the polluting loads that are treated in the plant with the parameters of permitted discharge of wastewater in freshwater bodies.

The purpose of the present work was to evaluate the current operation of the wastewater treatment plant in the community of Hualcanga San Luis, Quero canton, Tungurahua’s province. For this purpose, an inspection of the facilities was made, and then the inlet and outlet flow rates were measured using the volumetric method for seven consecutive days. This made it possible to determine the maximum and minimum flows with which the WWTP works. Once these flows were measured, wastewater samples were taken. These samples were sent to the Environmental Services Laboratory of the UNACH´s University for analysis of the pollutant load. The results showed that the current processes: distribution tank, septic tank, sludge drying bed and ascending biological filter do not meet the maximum removal parameters established in the TULSMA 2015 standard. Once the current operation of the WWTP was evaluated, a redesign of the current stages and the design of new stages were carried out, which are: desander and an oil and grease trap. These improvements together with the redesigned stages will allow the plant to operate correctly, respecting the values allowed by the regulations, because at present the discharge of these waters is a source of pollution for the environment. Finally, a maintenance and operation plan was proposed to ensure that the WWTP functions optimally.

The present experimental project aims to evaluate the efficiency of the filtering materials proposed in the research. The method applied in the creation of the biological filter formed of limestone, ceramic beads, zeolite and activated carbon of coconut’s shell, is based on the aeration process by means of multi-tray aerators. The experiment has two stages, with a total of 73 days of operation. The first stage was calibration, for the increase of bed height when comparing the residual water and once the liquid is filtered, on the other hand the second stage is to operate and to determine both the efficiency and the useful life of the materials. The structure of the filter is metallic, with a height of 2 meters. It has five cavities, in which the containers containing the filtering materials rest, four of five containers have 13 perforations to induce a drip. The first container located at the top contains the effluent to be treated, from the second to the fourth will be formed by the filtering materials; Limestone and ceramic beads (vessel 2), granular activated carbon (vessel 3), zeolite (vessel 4), finally the treated liquid is deposited in the last vessel. The parameters were analyzed, believing it necessary; Oils and Fats, BOD, COD, ST, SST, TC and pH.
