Dependencia funcional y su relación con la depresión en adultos mayores

dc.descriptionEste proyecto de investigación se realizó con el objetivo de identificar la relación del nivel de dependencia funcional y la depresión en adultos mayores. Estudio de tipo correlación de corte trasversal en 91 adultos mayores. Se aplicó el Índice de Barthel para la Dependencia Funcional y la escala de Depresión Geriátrica de Yesavage para la Depresión. Mediante el análisis estadístico se encontró que existe relación inversamente proporcional entre la dependencia funcional y la depresión, es decir a menores nivel de dependencia, mayor presencia de depresión. En cuanto a la dependencia funcional destaca la presencia del 46,2% de dependencia moderada y lo referente la prevalencia de depresión el 36,3% presenta probable depresión y el 34,1% depresión establecida. No se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre hombres y mujeres en dependencia funcional. Los adultos mayores que presentan dependencia total son más propensos a presentar depresión establecida.es_ES
dc.description.abstractThis research project was carried out with the objective of identifying the relationship between the level of functional dependence and depression in older adults. It was a cross- sectional correlation study in 91 older adults. The Barthel Index for Functional Dependence and the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale for Depression were applied. Statistical analysis showed that there was an inversely proportional relationship between functional dependence and depression, i.e. the lower the level of dependence, the greater the presence of depression. Regarding functional dependence, 46.2% were moderately dependent and regarding the prevalence of depression, 36.3% were probably depressed and 34.1% were depressed. No statistically significant differences were found between men and women in functional dependence. Older adults with total dependence are more likely to present established depression.es_ES
