    Distanciamiento familiar y desarrollo psicosocial
(Universidad Tècnica de Ambato, Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Sociales, Carrera de Trabajo Social, 2024-08) Caisalitin López, Ariana Sofia; Campoverde Quijano, Egda Maribel
Given the increasing trend of family distancing resulting from changes in family structure and dynamics, there are perceived negative consequences for children as the most vulnerable and affected. Analyzing adolescence as a period of great transformation and identity development, during which high levels of propensity for antisocial, delinquent, and self-harming behaviors are manifested, questions have arisen about how this phenomenon can impact this stage. For this reason, it was extremely relevant to analyze the influence of family distancing on the psychosocial development of adolescents in order to promote the implementation of intervention and support strategies that promote healthy development and, consequently, a proper transition from childhood to adulthood. This study aimed to analyze the influence of family distancing on the psychosocial development of adolescents from the Rioblanco Alto educational unit. The sample consisted of 55 students between 15 and 17 years old from this educational center who come from distant families. The research was based on a mixed approach and two data collection instruments were used: an interview aimed at exploring the psychosocial development of adolescents and a survey to explore the causes of family distancing they experience. The main results reflect that the causes of family distancing in the adolescents are divorce, migration, work, family violence, and substance abuse. There is a predominance of divorce, and the paternal figure is the one that mostly moves away from the home. Emotional development is the most affected due to family distancing. In the adolescents, cognitive development is not affected as they have developed critical and abstract thinking that allows them to make decisions not solely based on emotions. Their creative capacity is developed. It is concluded that the psychosocial development of the adolescents from distant families is determined by the consequences brought about by this social phenomenon. Damage to the emotional sphere affects academic performance, the establishment of healthy and lasting relationships, mental health, and emotional well-being in general
