Item The affective filter and the speaking skill(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Idiomas, 2021-03-01) García Uquillas, Ana Milena; Chicaiza Redin, Verónica ElizabethSpeaking skill is one of the most desired ones to achieve among language learners. The factors that may boost a competent or inadequate enhancement of it are several. Within them, it can be found the Affective Filter which has been gaining more attention due to the importance of attitudes for language learning. The goal of this research was to identify the relationship between the affective filter and the speaking skill. The research conducted at the Technical University of Ambato has a qualitative-quantitative nature and a descriptive, bibliographic, field, and correlational modality. The data were obtained from 34 students from the third semester at “Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros” using a survey and a PET speaking test. The results were statistically analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient formula. In the end, the results demonstrated that there was a relationship between the Affective filter and the Speaking skill showing a strong negative correlation. The Pearson coefficient resulted in rxy= -0,70. This means that if EFL students show low levels of Affective filter, their speaking skill competences will tend to be better than those from students with high filter levelsItem Lyrics Training and the pronunciation of the English language(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Idiomas, 2021-01-01) Quisnia Aldas, Jessica Carolina; Infante Paredes, Ruth ElizabethTo determine the relationship between the Lyrics Training and the pronunciation of the English language in the third semester from Pedagogía de Los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros career at Universidad Técnica de Ambato involves English students’ interest with the segmental and supra-segmental features comprehension. Moreover, an international approval exam from Cambridge, which was PET Speaking Part 1, was used to collect students’ academic information; it was applied to 27 students. Nevertheless, qualitative and quantitative approaches were applied to the experiment because they include the whole group in the same context without dividing the research into its parts. It is concerted due to the specific data collection and numerical measurement with observations and descriptions through the T-Student test to get the results of the entire process to know the alternative or null hypothesis. Therefore, the results suggest that there is a relationship between the Lyrics Training app and the pronunciation of the English language that the practice of segmental and supra-segmental features reinforce the phonological features for speaking. Altogether, the research project showed that the execution of the app in pronunciation activities helps to expand students’ interest in pronunciation activities to improve their pronunciation subskill and their speaking developmentItem VAK theory activities and the spoken pronunciation interaction(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Idiomas, 2020-11-01) Torres Reyes, Christopher Fabián; Chicaiza Redín, Verónica ElizabethSpeaking is perceived as a challenge for EFL learners. The students themselves define it as “working in a mine”, or “learning how to walk again”. It means that teachers should be recursive to help students increase the spoken production. In that way, this work was designed with the main objective of demonstrating the benefits of the use of the VAK theory as a new proposal to develop the speaking skill, so that it can be used in EFL settings. To achieve the goals set, a bibliographic investigation was carried out to get a theoretical support. Then, an experimental research was done in “Unidad Educativa Oscar Efrén Reyes”. The students were divided into two groups: an experimental group, and a control one. At the beginning, a pre-test was applied to all the students to evaluate their current capabilities related to the spoken production. After that, one group of students, the experimental group, was exposed to the VAK theory activities during several lessons, while the other was instructed with no variations in the teaching style applied by their teacher. Finally, a post-test was applied to all the learners to determine if the exposure to the “activities”, aforementioned, produced any change in the spoken production. After collecting and processing all the scores gotten by students, the conclusion drawn was that the use of the VAK theory activities influenced positively the spoken production in the experimental group because the students feel comfortable with the activities that were implemented for helping them to speak without doubts. Students were scared at the moment to speak in the first classes, but, according the time passed; the activities helped them to try to interact to each other and being this research successfulItem Problem-based learning and the speaking skill(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Idiomas, 2020-11-01) Guerrero López, Sandra Lorena; Moya López, Carlos FernandoThe present research project focused on determining the incidence of PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING and the ability to speak. The development of the research was based on the evidence that there are missing teaching methods to encourage learners speak English in the Unidad Educativa Japón. Therefore, this significantly affects the performance of students when speaking the English language. The type of research was descriptive-exploratory; it investigates the characteristics of a certain group through a set of 10 closed questions in a questionnaire created based on key categories and indicators. The investigative method that was used is inductive-deductive, and a pre-test and a post-test were carried out, using the survey technique, and applied to a population of 26 students in total. As a result, the influence of the learning approach significantly affects the problems in the development of oral ability in second-level students of the Unidad Educativa Japón in the city of Ambato. The results were presented in the form of conclusions and potential changes were also indicated in the suggestions section. Finally, the present research supports the concept that English students can improve their speaking skill while working on activities that include the PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING method; for this reason, a guide with this type of activities is aimed to be used during English speaking classes which will promote students’ interaction focused on factual events.Item Lyrics Training and the pronunciation of the English language(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educación-Carrera de Idiomas, 2021-01-01) Quisnia Aldas, Jessica Carolina; Infante Paredes, Ruth ElizabethTo determine the relationship between the Lyrics Training and the pronunciation of the English language in the third semester from Pedagogía de Los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros career at Universidad Técnica de Ambato involves English students’ interest with the segmental and supra-segmental features comprehension.
