Item CONSUMO DE DROGAS Y SU INFLUENCIA EN EL RENDIMIENTO ACADÉMICO DE LOS ESTUDIANTES DE ENFERMERÍA(2025-06-17) Millingalli Ortega Leydi Nicole; Yeisy Cristina Guarate Coronado; Universidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Carrera de EnfermeríaPsychostimulant drugs increase brain activity, temporarily improving alertness and performance. However, its consumption can have negative effects on physical and mental health. In the academic environment, pressure can lead to risky behavior. Since 2020, the use of these substances has increased among nursing students, highlighting the need for effective interventions. Objective: To elaborate a theoretical construct on the discourse of the participants of the study in relation to drug use and its influence on academic performance in the nursing career. Method: A mixed approach was used. The quantitative method was non-experimental, transversal and descriptive, with a sample of 400 students selected through stratified sampling. Two instruments were applied: the "Alcohol, Tobacco and Substance Use Screening Test" (ASSIST) and a questionnaire on psychostimulants. The qualitative approach included 7 semi-structured interviews, analyzed following the Demaziere and Duvar methodology. Results: 71.5% of the students are over 20 years old, with female predominance (81.8%). Most consume coffee and energy drinks, reporting side effects such as insomnia and anxiety. Many believe that psychostimulants improve their academic performance, although family support varies. Conclusion: Respondents consume various substances, with a main focus on improving their academic performance, while family influence plays an important role in this context.
