(2025-06-18) Curillo Banda, Anibal Fabricio; Macias Ferreiro, Karina; Universidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Carrera de Enfermería
Family functioning is considered as the set of interactions that allow us to face various crises. Academic performance is the result of the teaching-learning process that is involved in the knowledge learned in said process and how it is incorporated into their behavior and that could be mediated by family functioning. The objective of the research was to determine the influence of family functioning on the academic performance of nursing students at the Technical University of Ambato. It was carried out under a quantitative, descriptive, ambispective and correlational approach. The sample was made up of 286 students enrolled in the period from March to September 2024. For the diagnosis of family functioning, the ff-sil questionnaire was used and academic performance was analyzed according to the evaluation scale of the evaluation regulations of the aforementioned institution. As a result, it was found that there is no association between academic performance and family functioning with p 0.504 > 0.05, however, students from complete nuclear families were the ones who predominated (56.6%), which represents a family structure considered a positive support network. The need for a new study on the factors that impact the academic performance of nursing students was demonstrated.

The relationship between learning strategies and academic performance in nursing students underscores the importance of developing motivational and cognitive skills to complete the educational process. Objective: To analyze how learning strategies influence the academic performance of nursing students. The research focuses on identifying the motivational, cognitive, and contextual skills that impact the learning process. Methods: A quantitative approach was employed, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design using surveys as the main technique. The University Students’ Learning Strategies Assessment Questionnaire (CEVEAPEU), consisting of 49 dichotomic type questions, was administered to a sample of 110 students. The reliability of the instrument was high, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.91. Results: It was revealed that 89% of students feel capable of selecting relevant information for their studies, although 22% face challenges in using bibliographic resources. However, only 11% are able to recognize essential documents in online searches, indicating a problem in managing digital information overload. Conclusion: Although most students exhibit confidence in their learning ability, there is an urgent need to improve their skills in identifying reliable online sources. This suggests that training programs should be implemented to strengthen these competencies, fostering more autonomous and well-founded learning in an increasingly digital academic environment.

(2025-06-16) Guano Almache, Cristian Joel; Analuisa Jiménez, Eulalia Isabel; Universidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Carrera de Enfermería
Introduction: The period the maternal role can have significant repercussions on the academic development of university students. Previous studies have identified challenges such as the balance between academic and parental responsibilities, as well as prenatal factors that influence the cognitive and socio-emotional development of children. Objective: To analyze the main repercussions of the prenatal period and maternal role on the academic development of university students. Methodology: A systematic search was carried out in electronic databases such as PubMed, Scielo and Google Scholar, following the PRISMA guidelines. Observational studies published between 2019 and 2024 that investigated the relationship between prenatal factors, motherhood and academic performance in university students were included. Results: The maternal role during university studies presents considerable challenges, although with adequate support, some student mothers manage to persist and be academically successful. Effective coping strategies such as time management and the use of technologies to facilitate learning were identified. Conclusion: The prenatal period and the maternal role have multifaceted repercussions on college academic development. It is crucial that educational institutions implement specific support policies and services for student mothers, considering both academic and childcare needs.

Resilience and academic self-efficacy are key factors in university students' development and performance, influencing their ability to overcome adversity and their confidence in their own abilities. This research aimed to analyze the relationship between resilience and academic self-efficacy in university students. A quantitative, descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional methodology was used with a sample of 501 students from the Veterinary Medicine and Agronomy programs at a university in Ambato, Ecuador. The Resilience Scale (ER) by Wagnild and Young and the Specific Academic Situations Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale (EAPESA) were applied. The results showed a moderate positive correlation between resilience and academic selfefficacy (p < .001). A 64.1% of students exhibited high levels of resilience, and the mean academic self-efficacy score was 25.5. No significant gender differences in resilience levels were found. It is concluded that higher resilience is associated with greater academic self-efficacy, suggesting that strengthening resilience could improve students' academic performance.

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato/ Facultad de Ciencias de Salud /Carrera de Enfermería, 2024-10-03) Lema Tipantuña, Andrea Carolina; Llerena Cruz, Carmen Alicia
The study focuses on analyzing sleep disorders and their impact on the academic performance of fourth-semester Nursing students. This cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach and nonexperimental design revealed that sleep disorders, which are disruptions in sleep phases that hinder proper and restorative rest, have a negative effect on the academic-professional performance of Nursing students. The results show that the most prevalent sleep disorders among Nursing students are excessive daytime sleepiness, intermediate and final insomnia, and initial insomnia. These findings support the close relationship between sleep disorders and academic performance, demonstrating that these health issues can significantly influence students' performance. The use of a validated questionnaire and data analysis through tabulation in Excel has allowed for the identification and quantification of the prevalence of sleep disorders in the study population. In conclusion, it is confirmed that sleep disorders, such as excessive daytime sleepiness and various types of insomnia, are closely related to the academic performance of Nursing students, emphasizing the importance of addressing these issues to promote better rest and optimal academic performance.

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato/ Facultad de Ciencias de Salud /Carrera de Psicología Clínica, 2023-03-01) Labre Ortiz, Jonathan Joel; Bonilla Basantes, Paulina Jhojana
This research sought to determine the correlation between personality traits and academic self-efficacy in university students, so the participation of students from a university in the city of Ambato was considered. A transversal, non-experimental, quantitative approach was used in a sample of 123 medical students with 34.14% of men and 65.86% of women, with an age range between 18 and 27 years old, who were selected by inclusion and exclusion criteria. For the data collection process, the digital platform Google Forms was used, where the letter of acceptance was attached, which ensured free participation and identity protection. The constructs used were the International Personality Disorder Examination (IPDE) DSM IV module to assess personality traits and the Academic Situations Specific Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale (EAPESA) in a digitalized form. The results showed that the predominant personality traits in university students were constituted in first place by the narcissistic trait with 24.4%, followed by avoidant with 18.7% and borderline with 15.4%. In relation to the levels of self - efficacy, there was evidence of a higher score in the high level of self-efficacy followed by moderate and low self-efficacy. As for the association of self-efficacy with the sex of the participants, there was no significant relationship between the variables.
