Epidemiological studies reveal that approximately 1 in every 700 to 800 births in the world presents this alteration. Given that this condition affects several motor areas, the present research project was carried out with the objective of determining whether recreational activities contribute to the improvement of upper limb motor skills in children aged 2 to 5 years with Down syndrome. This research was framed in a quasi-experimental design, with a longitudinal and quantitative approach. This project included the participation of 25 children with Down syndrome from Latidos Down Ambato Fundación. The psychomotor development test (TEPSI) was used to evaluate the child's motor performance in categories of normality, risk and delay, with a total of 12 sessions of 30 to 40 minutes 3 times a week. Among the results obtained, it was found that, of the total intervention population, the children initially presented a 64% deficit in motor skills, while after the intervention this increased to 84%, which indicates that the treatment applied has favorable effects on the development of motor skills. Thus, concluding that the application of play activities has proven to be effective for the improvement of motor skills in children with Down syndrome and to contribute to the strengthening of their autonomy and active participation.
