(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil., 2025-02) Cruz Andrade, Jeycob Israel; Guevara Robalino, Jorge Javier
A sanitary sewer system is considered an essential service for the population due to its impact on people's health and hygiene, while a storm sewer system does not help prevent flooding and natural disasters. Despite this, in the Picaihua parish, Ambato canton, Tungurahua province, there are many sectors that lack this service. Because of this, the objective of this technical project is to design the sanitary and storm sewer system, including its treatment plant, for the Sigsipamba hamlet. The methodology used in this project was in several phases: in the first phase, the design parameters were determined, which provide us with technical values and criteria to size and plan our project, and the obtaining of data, which includes the topographic survey, which provides us with georeferenced points of our project. Subsequently, the design of the sanitary, storm sewer and PTAR was carried out in accordance with the Bolivian standard NB 688 and the current regulatory framework of Senagua. In the final phase, a unit price analysis of the project was carried out, which gives us an approximate value of the construction cost of the project. The result was a sanitary and storm sewer network of 26 wells and 25 pipes for both the sanitary and storm sewers with a length of 972.32 m, and a flow rate of 11.94 lt/sg and 490.65 lt/sg respectively. As for the wastewater treatment plant, the following were obtained: an inlet channel, grate, sand trap, septic tank, in addition to the drying bed and the ascending flow biological filter, which meet the established parameters. Finally, the Unit Price Analysis of the project was determined, which is the value of five hundred and fifty-five thousand one hundred and thirty-one US dollars and seventy-four cents.

Sewage systems play a crucial role in preserving public health and environmental protection by preventing pollution. However, several sectors of the Mocha Canton lack this service. Therefore, the main objective of this technical project was the design of the sanitary sewage network for the Chilcapamba and Olalla sectors in the Mocha Canton, Tungurahua Province. The project was structured in three different phases, each using specific methodologies. In the first, preliminary studies were carried out that included a detailed topographic survey, the execution of surveys, and an analysis of water consumption. In the second, the design was developed in accordance with the current regulations of SENAGUA and the Bolivian Standard NB 688, applying hydraulic calculations according to the “Standards for the Study and Design of Drinking Water Systems and Wastewater Disposal for Populations Greater than 1000 Inhabitants”, while the third focused on the economic evaluation of the project. As a result of this process, a sanitary sewage network was established consisting of 61 wells and 62 pipes, with a total length of 2.7 km. In addition, a detailed volumetric evaluation of the components of the Olalla wastewater treatment plant was carried out, confirming that all elements satisfy the requirement for a total flow rate of 1.80 l/s. In conclusion, it was determined that the designs meet the standards established in the aforementioned regulations and a project execution budget of $304,156.00 was estimated.

The Parish of Huachi Grande, located in the north edge of Ambato city, has experienced a change in its land use during the last years. Going from a purely agricultural region to a partially residential due to urban growth. Consequently, the existing sanitary system does not satisfy the current demand. For that reason, the public company of drinking water from Ambato EP EMAPA A suggests the need of an improvement in the sewage system in the stretch belonging to the Panamericana road. Therefore, a separate sewage system is proposed. It means, a collection network for residual water and a collection network for storm water independent to each other. This design is aligned to the current Ecuadorian standard, CPE INEN 5 Part 9: Standard for study and design of drinking water systems and sewage systems for populations above 1000 inhabitants. Resulting in a separate network system for a future population projected toward 25 years. This proposal includes 2.79 km of PVC pipe for the residual water system, 1.40 km for the storm water system and 51 manholes overall. This design constitutes a contribution to the improvement of the sanitary and drainage system of the Huachi Grande Parish. Hence, it is a positive impact in the quality of life of its population.

The present work is a design of 6 sewerage networks located in El Porvenir - Las Palmeras, El Rosal - La Primavera; El Rosal - Centro, and El Paraíso; these areas lack sewage networks, this being an essential service. In order to avoid almost over demand in the Wastewater Treatment Plants, each one was evaluated, contemplating the flows of the designed branches. The current regulations of SENAGUA and EMAAP-Q were used for the development and calculation of the hydraulic parameters. These values were reviewed under the design criteria for populations of less than 1000 inhabitants. Bibliographic, field and experimental research methodologies were applied, in which basic parameters were established for the collection of topographic data as values, which allowed the correct design of the networks. These variables were directly affected by the design methodologies used for different cases; The Thorman and Franke hydraulic relationship tables were used, which made a difference in the design speeds. Together, the WWTPs designated as recipients of each designed flow were evaluated visually and theoretically, based on quantitative and qualitative criteria, guided by previous standards and in addition PAHO 2005 and CONAGUA. These calculations made it possible to design a set of 6 sewerage branches for a total of 2.76 km; This process was carried out under the legal and technical parameters in the indicated regulations. In the same way, the treatment units of the WWTPs were evaluated and improved. of Cacahuango, Pinguilí and El Rosal, so that the quality of the effluent improves. The products of this work are reflected in the corresponding plans and in additional works such as APUS, Technical Specifications, etc.

This technical project consists of improving the sanitation and wastewater treatment system in the community of El Santuario, Quero canton, Tungurahua province, deteriorated by population growth and lack of maintenance over the years, which has altered the quality of life of its inhabitants and the incorrect use of the resource for agricultural irrigation. To this end, the basic information for the project was collected, consisting of a topographic survey of the pipe networks and sewerage wells, a population census, inspection of the physical sanitary infrastructure, flow measurement campaigns, and wastewater characterization. The purpose was to verify the hydraulic capacity of the collection network and the efficiency of the current processes and unit operations for wastewater treatment, which are: septic tank, FAFA and sludge drying bed. The results showed that four pipe network sections do not conform to the design parameters (slope and velocity limits); in addition, the current treatment train does not generate an effluent of the required quality for treated water intended for agricultural reuse specified in the TULSMA 2015 standard and the FAO guide, so the redesign of the collection networks that present drawbacks was carried out, and the incorporation of new treatment processes such as: screening, desander, grease trap, trickling filter, secondary sedimenter and artificial wetland, in addition to the improvement of existing units.
