Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2023-07) Herrera Moya, Priscila Monserrath; Frías Torres, Alex XavierCurrently worldwide environmental pollution has been increasing due to poor waste management, one of the main pollutants are polymers found in materials such as plastics and rubber. In this work, the conventional asphalt mix was modified with the implementation of non-biodegradable recycled material, improving some of the mechanical properties of asphalt, so as to promote the reuse of commonly consumed materials. Conventional asphalt briquettes and asphalt modified with PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) recycled material and modified with Nitrile Rubber were made in order to analyze their mechanical properties and performance compared to conventional asphalt mixtures, giving these materials a new use. . The behavior of a modified asphalt mixture with the addition of 5, 10, 15 and 20 percent of PET was analyzed, in addition to one modified with 2, 3, 4 and 5 percent of Nitrile Rubber for which ASTM D 1559 and AASHTO T 225; 36 samples were prepared, of which 12 correspond to conventional asphalt mixtures and 24 to modified mixtures, once analyzed the optimum percentage of asphalt and polymer was established, finally through a comparative analysis of the results it was determined that the addition of these materials Several parameters of the asphalt mix improve compared to the conventional one, thus being the sample added with nitrile rubber the best option.Item Análisis de las propiedades físico-mecánicas y CBR de suelos cohesivos de subrasante mezclados con partículas de tereftalato de polietileno (PET)(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2021-09) Ocampo Guerrero, Nancy Patricia; Castro Solorzano, Fidel AlbertoThe purpose of this experimental work is to analyze the physical-mechanical and CBR properties of natural cohesive soils and cohesive soils combined with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) particles, to be used in the formation of subgrade. For the research, 4 samples of natural soil were taken from 3 different points within the Sevilla don Bosco parish in Morona Canton, province of Morona Santiago with a total of 12 samples of cohesive soil, for which the topsoil was removed and approximately 40 kilograms of the natural sample were collected; polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles were also collected and crushed at the Proplasticmax S.A. recycling company. Field and laboratory tests were carried out with natural soil samples and soil samples combined with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) particles, determining: soil type, characteristics, physical-mechanical properties, and CBR. An increase in CBR from 8.4 percent to 11.4 percent was observed. The results obtained in the CBR test, together with the results of the vehicular analysis, were used in the design of the structure of flexible pavement and these thicknesses were compared, obtaining a reduction of 5 centimeters in the total thickness of the road structure.Item Incidencia de la adición de polímeros en los hormigones asfálticos convencionales mezclados en planta para vías en el cantón Ambato, provincia de Tungurahua(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2021-09) Castro Faz, Jonathan Stallin; Bayas Altamirano, Myriam MarisolThe objective of this experimental work was to elaborate asphalt mixtures with the addition of polymers (Polyethylene Terephthalate PET, Polypropylene PP separately and together), in this case plastic bottles and caps were used respectively, which were obtained through the recycling process. Stony material obtained from the JEAL Construcciones asphalt plant located in the Ambato canton was used to make asphalt briquettes based on the Marshall Method for the Design of Bituminous Asphalt Mixtures with its standard ASTM D 1559 to evaluate its incidence against conventional asphalt briquettes. First, tests were performed on the coarse and fine aggregates, respectively, according to the specifications of the standards in force. Subsequently, 15 conventional briquettes were made with different percentages of asphalt cement from 5 to 7 with intervals of 0.5. After testing these briquettes, the optimum percentage of asphalt was determined, with which 3 briquettes were made with the addition of PET, PP and PET-PET polymers with percentages of 1,3,6 and 9 respectively, added to the asphalt mix as a partial replacement of the fine aggregate. Finally, a comparative analysis of the properties of the conventional and modified asphalt mixes was carried out, determining that the modified asphalt mix is an alternative, which gave positive results in relation to the load, i.e., stability. However, in relation to flow or deformation and percentage of voids, it showed high levels of deformation
