Due to the fact that there were no records of conditions in which the mencioned ovals are found, in the present experimental work the study and hydraulic characterization of the irrigation canal in the section between oval 1 and oval 4 located in the sector og Huachi La Libertad, based on the topographic survey of the canal. The physical and hydraulic properties of the channel included in the abscissas 0+00 kilometers 2+600 kilometers were determined, the total station was used to determine the topography and the DMM-4000PFT windlass to determine the speeds at different heights of the hydraulic depth, depending on the gauging method, the topography obtained was processed with the help of specialized software to determine contour lines, longitudinal profile of the channel, among others, the velocities were processed in spreadsheets to determine the flow in each cross section and with this, the speed graphs were made in which the minimum and maximum ranges existing in the study channel were presented. The channel was modeled using the hydraulic simulation program for channels and recreating its behavior in a numerical model for each point, in which the change of values of manning coeffcients was made, in other words, characteristic of the point of the channel were determined, study and analyzed the impact of the canal design today.

Estudio y caracterización hidráulica del óvalo 13 – 17 del canal de riego Ambato-Huachi-Pelileo, cantón Cevallos, provincia de Tungurahua

In the present research work, the hydraulic characterization of the Ambato-Huachi- Pelileo canal from oval 13 to 17 was carried out, for which the topographic survey was carried out by means of precision equipment such as the Trimble M3 total station and the windmill of the study area. determined the slope and cross section of the channel, the average flow was obtained by gauging the average velocity in different points of the channel, as well as the geometrical elements thereof. After processing the data obtained in the field, modeling was carried out in the Hec- Ras software, obtaining a simulation close to the reality of the section analyzed by calibrating the model by varying the Manning number. Estimating discharge curves, froude number, flow profile, energy level and speed load.

Estudio y caracterización hidráulica del óvalo 21 al óvalo 22 del canal de riego Ambato – Huachi - Pelileo, cantón Cevallos, provincia de Tungurahua

The purpose of this research project is to determine the physical and hydraulic properties of the Ambato Huachi Pelileo irrigation channel in the section between km 13 + 500 and km 16 + 173 corresponding to oval 21 and 22. To obtain the topography, the topographic survey of the canal was carried out using the Trimble M3 total station, equipment provided by the university. The cross sections were measured every 500m, especially in straight sections of the canal, where the geometric data of the section was collected. In addition, the average speed was determined as well as the hydraulic expense by means of a windlass. With the data obtained in situ, a numerical modeling was carried out through the HEC-RAS software, where the behavior of the fluid through the channel was simulated. To do this we did an adjustment or calibration of the simulation carried out using the Manning coefficients. The purpose for each section was to verify through the input data the similarity between the flow average speed and normal draft proving in this way another similarity between the in situ measurements results and the numerical modeling results. The purpose of the research project is to locate the sites where there is a better behavior of the hydraulic properties of the fluid in the Ambato-Huachi-Pelileo irrigation channel that will serve in the future as a preliminary research to locate possible renewable energy sources with the purpose of taking advantage of this resources to the maximum without altering the use for which the irrigation channel was originally designed.

For the execution of this project, we have started with a documentary research, where we have found the necessary information, formulas and required and important coefficients in the hydraulic characterization for a correct correlation of results in situ and numerical simulation. The in situ study was carried out in the first place, which consists in the topographic survey, measurement of cross sections, identification of the sectors and digitalization by means of AUTO CAD CIVIL 3D of the section under study that begins in the limits of the Parroquia Montalvo and the Canton Cevallos and ends at the intersection of the canal and the Yanahurco - Cevallos road and as the second step in the field study is the recording of speed data with the use of a flow meter and fluid velocity DMM - 4000 / PFT with which proceeded to the horizontal and vertical measurement of velocities to determine the flow behavior of the entire cross section of the 6 analyzed points. Based on the recording of speed data in situ, the calculation of speeds and average flow rates in each section is carried out using two methods. From the results we choose the most critical scenario, that is, the highest value. Finally, the simulation is carried out using the HEC - RAS software where we analyze the similarities and the differences of results in field and numerical, and we also identify by means of the Manning coefficient if the physical characteristics modified with the passage of time influence the hydraulic behavior of the numerical model.
