By observing an informal writing, short ideas supported by characteristic symbols of social networks could be perceived. In addition, there are no rules governing these texts as grammatical, orthographic, and semantic structure. Considering that Whatsapp is one of the most downloaded applications and it has millions of users, this investigation was carried out to identify if the digital language used in this social network affects scientific academic written language of the students from colleges in the central region of Ecuador. The process was established differences between the two types of language written in their characteristics and their functions. For the verification of the hypothesis it was necessary to carry out the field work in three provinces; Tungurahua, Cotopaxi and Chimborazo. In the three most representative institutes. Field work consisted in making surveys, in the realization of writings and the collection of screenshots of Whatsapp talks. According to polls 50% of students used the social network Whatsapp for at least 2 hours a day and 36% about 6 hours. 86% uses the application to talk to friends and family. Two-thirds of the population uses it for work and school. 57% considers that Whatsapp has been a contribution to the improvement of academic level. However, analyzing the academic writing of students of institutions of higher level, it was evident that their writings present grammatical, orthographic and semantic problems. Before of this, the digital writings of Whatsapp which presented similar mistakes were analyzed. By comparing these writings was established that if well application Whatsapp is not the direct cause of the problems of writing that the students have, Yes it affects, by its nature, scientific writing.
