dc.descriptionThe purpose of this research work is to analyze the information services accessible to visually impaired individuals in University Libraries, taking as a case study the tiflotechnology area of the General Library Carlos Toro Navas at the Technical University of Ambato, in order to propose inclusive actions that improve the experience of users with this condition. Theoretical foundations were established for the concepts related to visual impairment and accessible services, laying the necessary groundwork to understand the barriers that exist in services for people with visual impairments and the best practices in the care provided by university libraries. This process included a review of scientific literature framed in accessibility, universal design, and assistive technologies, which allowed for the conceptualization of the challenges faced by university libraries in their mission to offer universal and accessible services to their users. When diagnosing the current state of services through instruments such as surveys and interviews, the need to strengthen technological tools, adapted bibliographic material, and inclusive services was evident. The research considered not only the experiences and perceptions of users and librarians but also considered the requirements outlined in the in the Evaluation and Accreditation Model of the Higher Education Quality Assurance Council (CACES). Currently, the Tiflobiblioteca service provided at the Carlos Toro Navas Library presents barriers in infrastructure, the amount of bibliographic material adapted to the needs of users as support in the teaching process, and the incorporation of assistive technologies. The library must implement inclusive methodologies and strategies that allow users with visual disabilities to access services and ensure their equitable participation among the entire university community. It is essential to have trained staff on all topics related to inclusion and disability awareness as part of the contribution to a more accessible and equitable society.
dc.description.abstractEl presente trabajo de investigación tiene como finalidad analizar los servicios de información accesibles para personas con discapacidad visual en las Bibliotecas Universitarias tomando como caso de estudio el área de tiflobiblioteca de la Biblioteca General Carlos Toro Navas de la Universidad Técnica de Ambato para proponer acciones inclusivas que permitan mejorar la experiencia de los usuarios con esta condición. Se fundamentó teóricamente los conceptos relacionados con la discapacidad visual y los servicios accesibles estableciendo las bases necesarias para comprender las barreras que existen en los servicios para personas con discapacidad visual y las buenas prácticas en la atención que prestan las bibliotecas universitarias. Este proceso incluyó una revisión de literatura científica enmarcada en la accesibilidad, el diseño universal y las tecnologías de apoyo que permitió conceptualizar los desafíos que enfrentan las bibliotecas universitarias en su misión de ofrecer a sus usuarios servicios universales y accesibles. Al realizar el diagnóstico del estado actual de los servicios a través de instrumentos como la encuesta y la entrevista donde se evidenció la necesidad de fortalecer las herramientas tecnológicas, material bibliográfico adaptado y los servicios inclusivos. La investigación consideró no solo las experiencias y percepciones de los usuarios y los bibliotecarios, sino que también contempló los requerimientos considerados en el Modelo de Evaluación y Acreditación del Consejo de Aseguramiento de la Calidad de la Educación Superior (CACES).
