Maestría en Seguridad e Higiene Industrial y Ambiental, 2018) Sánchez Muñoz, Nelson Francisco; Morales Perrazo, Luis AlbertoEXECUTIVE SUMMARY The present research work arises from the need to assess the risk of fire in the work areas where steel recycling and manufacturing is carried out, for which the current management of the use of fuels and its incidence on the risk of fire is investigated. An evaluation is initially carried out taking into consideration the NTP 749 of the INSHT, the total percentage of compliance of the 4 facilities is located in 82.14%, however, the overall rating is very deficient since some applicable items are qualified as very poor . Next, the fire risk assessment is carried out using the Meseri method, where the risk of Steelworks has an assessment of 4.88, while Laminates and Wire Drawing have a value of 4.99, obtaining an important Risk equivalence and therefore a need for reduce the risk immediately. Finally, the fire risk assessment is carried out through the Fire and Explosion Index (F & E) created by Dow Chemical, where it is clear that the risk of Laminates is Intermediate, of Steelworks is Serious and of Wire Drawing is Intense. The proposal to avoid the materialization of a fire and to improve the preventive actions of the company is to elaborate the prevention and action procedures in case of materialization of a fire.
