Social development and road safety are closely related to the quality and functionality of the road infrastructure, which must meet the appropriate technical requirements. This technical project focuses on addressing the challenges associated with the growth of vehicular flow on the Pillaro road, proposing a comprehensive solution based on the optimization of its geometric design. The main objective is to improve traffic conditions and reduce travel times for tourists using this route, thus contributing to the tourism and economic development of the region. In order to meet this objective, fundamental activities were carried out, such as a topographic survey using a high-precision GNSS system, an exhaustive analysis of vehicular traffic, and soil studies carried out in accordance with current regulations. These analyses were essential to determine the physical and mechanical characteristics of the terrain, crucial elements in the formulation of the design proposal. The optimization proposal includes both the geometric redesign of the road and the structural calculation of the pavement, incorporating these elements in an estimated budget and an execution schedule. A total road length of 4.875 km was established, along with a projected annual average daily traffic (ADAT) of 7805 vehicles/day for a design period of 20 years. This projection allowed the road to be classified as a Class 1 arterial road, in compliance with current regulations. As a result, the soil studies revealed a design CBR of 20.31 percent, qualifying the material as highly suitable for use as subgrade. Based on these results, the optimum thicknesses for the different layers of the road were determined: 7.5 cm for the asphalt layer, 15 cm for the base and 20 cm for the subbase, thus guaranteeing the durability and functionality of the road. In addition, a detailed economic analysis was carried out, estimating an execution budget of $1,467,274.83. This investment is intended to improve connectivity between the communities and the urban area, promoting economic development in the region.

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2024-08) Gavilanes Rivera, Albert Alexander; Moya Medina, Dilon Germán
Adequate road infrastructure that complies with technical standards is essential to ensure the progress of society and traffic safety. In response to this situation and considering the needs of the GAD Parroquial de Huachi Grande and Santa Rosa, this project aims to propose a comprehensive improvement plan for the road linking these two parishes, since the current conditions do not guarantee the required safety and efficiency. For this purpose, a topographic survey was carried out with RTK equipment and a study of vehicular traffic. Subsequently, soil studies were carried out based on standards, thus establishing the physical and mechanical properties. This was followed by the improvement plan, which consisted of a geometric design of the road, as well as the calculation of the pavement structure, information necessary to prepare a referential budget and schedule. As a result, a road length of 4+640.89 km was defined, in addition to a future TPDA of 2687 vehicles/day for a design period of 20 years, classifying this road as class II. Subsequently, a design CBR of 13.35 percent is highlighted, which defined the soil as fair to good for use in subgrade. In addition, thicknesses of 7.5 cm were calculated for the asphalt binder, 15 cm for the base and 20 cm for the subbase. Finally, an economic analysis was carried out to obtain a budget for the implementation of the project of $1,514,594.25 and a time frame of 24 weeks.

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2024-08) Quispe Escobar, Richard Rai; Núñez Aldas, Galo Wilfrido
The choice to improve the road that connects the sectors of Unión Base-Rosario Yaku in the province of Pastaza is due to its poor condition, which harms the residents of the area. It is crucial to carry out a geometric design to optimize mobility and guarantee the safety of the inhabitants who transit daily. The current conditions of the road represent a significant risk, increasing the probability of accidents and negatively affecting the quality of life of users. To address the geometric design of the road, quantitative and qualitative methodologies were used, with field and bibliographic research methods. Quantitative methodologies made it possible to collect and analyze numerical data on traffic and the physical conditions of the road, while qualitative methodologies provided information on user needs. The road was designed using various software and complying with the regulations of the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works. In addition, tests were carried out on soil samples collected in the field, determining their moisture content, granulometry, Atterberg, Proctor and CBR limits. As a result, the project studies revealed that the area has a flat relief, classifying the road to be designed as class IV, while the soil tests identified an A-2-7 soil “gravel and clayey or silty sand” in all samples. extracted, with a design CBR of 9.30 percent indicating an asphalt layer thickness of 5 centimeters, a granular base of 15 centimeters and a subbase of 20 centimeters.
