For the development of this research, the materials such as coarse and fine aggregate were obtained from the Las Viñas mine belonging to the company JEAL Constructions located in the city of Ambato. Laboratory tests were conducted to analyze their mechanical characteristics and determine that they comply with the standards. of respective quality for each of them. Likewise, the recycled asphalt material belonging to the Guadalupe – Patate road in the Pelileo canton was collected and its quality was determined, and it was decided to collect steel wool as a reinforcement material. Once the characteristics of the materials were determined, the specimens were prepared using the Marshall Method in compliance with the standards AASHTO T 245, ASTM D 1559 and AASHTO T 225, three briquettes of traditional asphalt for each percentage, three briquettes with additions of recycled asphalt in percentages of 20, 40 and 60 percent and three briquettes with the addition of steel wool in percentages of 0.5, 1 and 1.5 percent, for each asphalt cement content, which gives a total of 105 asphalt briquettes produced during the development of all research. At the end of the respective tests, a comparative analysis of the mechanical properties was conducted between traditional asphalt mixtures, with percentages of recycled asphalt and with the addition of steel wool, such as stability, flow, and percentage of voids, using tables and graphs.

Currently worldwide environmental pollution has been increasing due to poor waste management, one of the main pollutants are polymers found in materials such as plastics and rubber. In this work, the conventional asphalt mix was modified with the implementation of non-biodegradable recycled material, improving some of the mechanical properties of asphalt, so as to promote the reuse of commonly consumed materials. Conventional asphalt briquettes and asphalt modified with PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) recycled material and modified with Nitrile Rubber were made in order to analyze their mechanical properties and performance compared to conventional asphalt mixtures, giving these materials a new use. . The behavior of a modified asphalt mixture with the addition of 5, 10, 15 and 20 percent of PET was analyzed, in addition to one modified with 2, 3, 4 and 5 percent of Nitrile Rubber for which ASTM D 1559 and AASHTO T 225; 36 samples were prepared, of which 12 correspond to conventional asphalt mixtures and 24 to modified mixtures, once analyzed the optimum percentage of asphalt and polymer was established, finally through a comparative analysis of the results it was determined that the addition of these materials Several parameters of the asphalt mix improve compared to the conventional one, thus being the sample added with nitrile rubber the best option.

The objective of this experimental work was to elaborate asphalt mixtures with the addition of polymers (Polyethylene Terephthalate PET, Polypropylene PP separately and together), in this case plastic bottles and caps were used respectively, which were obtained through the recycling process. Stony material obtained from the JEAL Construcciones asphalt plant located in the Ambato canton was used to make asphalt briquettes based on the Marshall Method for the Design of Bituminous Asphalt Mixtures with its standard ASTM D 1559 to evaluate its incidence against conventional asphalt briquettes. First, tests were performed on the coarse and fine aggregates, respectively, according to the specifications of the standards in force. Subsequently, 15 conventional briquettes were made with different percentages of asphalt cement from 5 to 7 with intervals of 0.5. After testing these briquettes, the optimum percentage of asphalt was determined, with which 3 briquettes were made with the addition of PET, PP and PET-PET polymers with percentages of 1,3,6 and 9 respectively, added to the asphalt mix as a partial replacement of the fine aggregate. Finally, a comparative analysis of the properties of the conventional and modified asphalt mixes was carried out, determining that the modified asphalt mix is an alternative, which gave positive results in relation to the load, i.e., stability. However, in relation to flow or deformation and percentage of voids, it showed high levels of deformation

To make pavers with hot asphalt mixtures with recycled aggregates, samples of aggregates from Dr. Julio Enrique Paredes Street were taken, which were obtained through a milling process, and then a cracking process was carried out to perform the tests. The percentage of residual asphalt of the recycled aggregates was determined by the asphalt extraction test in which a percentage of 5.8% of asphalt cement was determined, then a granulometric analysis was performed to determine the particle size, reaching a particle size. Maximum size of half an inch. In order to make the cobblestones with unrecycled aggregates, crushed aggregates of the Los Pinos Mine were acquired, and it was carried out with a granulometry of maximum size of half an inch. The Marshall test was carried out to determine the optimum percentage of asphalt cement needed by our hot mixes and in this way we proceeded to manufacture pavers of 8, 7 and 6 cm. Cobblestones with recycled asphalt mixtures were tested 2 days after they were made, and concrete pavers were tested after 28 days to reach maximum strength. An articulated pavement was designed with pavers of hot asphalt mixtures with recycled aggregates, knowing the values of the thicknesses of each layer that forms an articulated pavement the cost analysis of articulated pavements with pavers of hot asphalt mixtures was performed, which He noticed a low value with respect to simple concrete pavers.
