The index properties: the liquid limit, plasticity, plasticity index and granulometry, while the mechanical properties: density, optimal humidity and support capacity. CBR and DCP tests were carried out to determine the resistance and bearing capacity of the soils. For the correlations, an analytical approach methodology was used to analyze the data collected in the field and laboratory, and with these define simple and multiple correlations to obtain, from one of them, the CBR value necessary for the design of the flexible pavement in one of them. the routes studied. For which the qualitative and quantitative research method was applied, which allowed determining the data necessary for the calculation of the flexible pavement structure under the AASHTO 93 methodology. The results obtained were used to design the structure of the flexible pavement according to AASHTO Method 93, based on the CBR values obtained in the laboratory and through selected correlations, specific thicknesses were determined for the asphalt layer (10 cm), the granular base (15 cm) and the subbase (15 cm), with the option of starting with an initial asphalt layer 5 cm thick. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2020) Tenecota Paredes, Esteban Wladimir; Portilla Yandún, Favio PaúlAt the beginning of the project, information was researched on preliminary microzonation studies, with the objective of use selected points of these works and corroborating the information presented to have a starting point. A macro project was established to cover 4 areas of the city of Ambato and increase the sample size of the research. To get started the technical part, a route view was made identifying the 40 points selected for the trials, which 10 were divided for each area. The tests were carried out in the field and in turn samples were taken of the points destined to perform laboratory tests contemplating the index and mechanical properties. With the results obtained through the tests, the information was processed by software using the least squares statistical system for the formation of regressions and correlations, which served to establish simple and multiple correlations. The main subjects to form variables were the index and mechanical properties, the electrical resistivity and the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test. Correlation coefficients that meet more than 50 percent were selected and found, coefficients did not reach this value were discarded. Finally, 30 correlations were selected having values of correlation coefficients R2 ranging from 50 to 92 percent, indicating that the electrical resistivity method is a trustworthy, efficient and economical option to evaluate properties of granular soils. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2020) Mera Parra, Patricio David; Portilla Yandún, Favio PaúlThis research analyses electrical resistivity as an indirect method to estimate several index and mechanical properties of granular soils, the investigation process included: At first, a macro project was developed, this project includes other four investigations in order to increase the amount of samples; afterwards, a topographic and geologic recognition of the considered zones were done. Inside this zones, forty points were randomly selected, from which ten belongs to the present study, on those points, the field tests were made and the samples were taken. Once the index and mechanical properties results were obtained and the classification of soils were made, various regression analysis, using the least square method, were conducted, from which only the models that presented a logical relationship and higher correlation coefficients were selected. Field and laboratory tests as well as soil sampling were done following the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the American Society for Testing and Materials standards. Twenty four, simple and multiple, correlations are presented as result, the R² values vary from 66% to 94%, proving that electrical resistivity can be used as an economical and fast way to estimate certain granular soils’ properties. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2022-09) Merino Jiménez, Steven David; Pérez Maldonado, Ruth LorenaThe present research work consists of the development of a program coded in a graphical interface in an appropriate software, for the processing of data from soil mechanics tests: natural moisture, field density, granulometry, Attemberg limits, SUCS and AASHTO soil classification, modified Proctor, and California Bearing Ratio, having as input data the information collected from performing such tests. For the creation of the program it was necessary to review the different criteria of the tests according to AASHTO, ASTM, INEN standards, in order to standardize the calculation processes both manually and using the program. The verification and demonstration of the validity of the results was carried out by checking the manual calculation and the program, analyzing three samples taken, obtaining a null error, which verifies that all the information obtained with the program is totally reliable. As a result, a soil manual and coding algorithms were elaborated. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2021-09) Sánchez Chancusig, Silvia Paulina; Frías Torres, Alex XavierThe present experimental work aims to find different correlations between the index and mechanical properties of soils belonging to the parishes of Ulba and Río Verde of the Baños de Agua Santa canton of the province of Tungurahua. To start the investigation, 12 soil samples were extracted from the four routes considered in the project. To obtain these values to be implemented in the process of correlation between the index and mechanical properties of the soils, both field and laboratory tests have been carried out in compliance with the different regulations established by AASHTO, ASTM and INEN for the execution in each study. After the evaluation and analysis process, the SUCS and AASHTO soil classification were determined, as the characteristics of each of the sample’s values, with which a total of 24 correlations were reached that exceed a coefficient of determination of 50 per cent, considering them as acceptable. Once the values of the laboratory soil support capacity (CBR) are known, such as that obtained by property correlation, we proceed to the design of the flexible pavement appreciating that the thicknesses of each layer are equivalent for each design. Because of the similarity between the CBR lab and CBR correlation.
