Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2025-02) Crespo Vega, Felipe Israel; Bayas Altamirano, Myriam MarisolThe road connecting the Río Cutuchi Bridge to the Píllaro Livestock Fair is in poor condition, primarily due to significant pavement deterioration caused by inadequate maintenance. This issue reflects a broader challenge in Ecuador, where similar infrastructure problems affect road safety, transportation efficiency, and regional connectivity. This study proposed an improvement and maintenance plan to address these challenges. Field activities included traffic analysis, topographic surveys, and laboratory soil testing. Tests such as CBR, Modified Proctor, Natural Moisture Content, Liquid and Plastic Limits, and Condition Index (PCI) analysis provided a detailed evaluation of road performance. The results showed that seven of the fourteen sections surveyed were in poor condition, with "Alligator Cracking" as the most common defect, observed in twelve sections. Rehabilitation or replacement of the asphalt layer was recommended for these segments. Five sections were classified as good, requiring routine maintenance, while two were in fair condition, needing periodic corrective actions and surface reinforcement. The study highlighted the need for immediate intervention to restore the road’s structural and functional integrity. The proposed solutions aim to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and extend the road’s service life. The total estimated cost for the proposed interventions was $1,478,085.62, including rehabilitation, resurfacing, and maintenance activities. This project underscores the importance of timely maintenance and effective engineering solutions to address recurring infrastructure challenges. By implementing the proposed plan, the road will support safer, more efficient transportation and contribute to economic development in the region. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2024-08) Rueda Barahona, Francis Joel; Nuñez Aldaz, Galo WilfridoThe surface and structural evaluation of the pavement of the road that runs from the intersection with the highland trunk road (e35) to the Galte Chine Pungo community was carried out due to the different physical (potholes, cracks) and visual (lack of lights and ethical signs) problems that affect the safety and comfort of users. The experimental work began with the extraction of samples through the elaboration of calicatas one per km. This was followed by the collection of field information such as vehicle counts to determine vehicular demand, the characteristics of the subgrade material based on granulometry tests, Atterberg, Proctor and CBR limits, then the surface condition of the road was determined by visual inspection of the PCI and the structural condition of the road by determining the deflections using the Benkelman beam. As a result, once the field data and laboratory tests were processed and analyzed, it was determined that the most appropriate intervention for the track under analysis is periodic maintenance, since type I deflections and an average PCI of 54.07 were determined. Finally, a reference budget was prepared to carry out the proposed maintenance plan with a final value of $87.813,97 as of the date of publication. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2024-08) López Uribe, Santiago Ismael; Pérez Maldonado, Ruth LorenaThe geometric design of the Salcedo – Alpamalag road was carried out due to various problems such as the difficulty of transportation for farmers in the sector, poor condition of the road and its lack of maintenance, resulting in low economic production in the adjacent sectors. The technical project began with a prior inspection of the place, in order to collect information and carry out the topographic survey with high precision equipment (RTK), subsequently a vehicle count was carried out for 7 days for 12 hours a day to obtain traffic levels and then its TPDA, then 6 soil samples were extracted at different points of the road, which were taken to the faculty laboratories for their respective tests of moisture content, granulometry, Atterberg limits, Proctor compaction and CBR, with the help From the CBR data of the soil, it was possible to design the structure of the pavement and the thicknesses corresponding to each of its layers, complying with the AASHTO 93 regulations and finally the reference budget was calculated based on the volumes of work, materials and equipment necessary to the correct execution of the project. With the analyzes carried out, a mountainous relief was determined, in addition to the fact that it is a Class IV road, the tests determined that the soil is a silty sand (A-2) and the design CBR for the pavement is 8%, having a The result was a 5 centimeter asphalt layer, a 15 centimeter granular base and a 20 centimeter subbase. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2023-08) Silva Acosta, María Fernanda; Chérrez Gavilanes, Diego SebastiánThe Manzana de Oro road presents a very advanced deterioration, since being poorly designed it generates inconveniences in the mobilization between cantons, which influences Ambato and Cevallos, however, this does not apply only for maintenance since its failures are of great magnitude and are prone to generate accidents, so it is necessary a redesign and improvement of this infrastructure that is beneficial not only for the economy of these sectors but to provide security to the people. To conduct the new design of this road, a topographic study was carried out to identify the conditions in which it is located, based on points that were placed at an established distance. During consecutive hours near the starting point, it was possible to calculate the TPDA planned for 20 years and to conclude that the road belongs to Class R-I according to M.T.O.P. In addition to this, the physical and mechanical properties of the extracted soil were analyzed through soil tests guided under the AASHTO standard, such as moisture content, granulometry, Atterberg limits, modified Proctor and the CBR study which in turn generated results in a range between 11 to 20 percent qualifying the sample as a regular-good soil for pavement design. Finally, a new geometric design of the road was proposed based on the results that allowed unit price analysis and estimation of a reference budget. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2023-08) Toapanta Moposita, Kevin Paúl; Aldás Sánchez, Milton RodrigoThe geometric road design proposes to unite the Calgua sector belonging to the Augusto Nicolás Martínez parish with the Ambato Transfer Center with the purpose of solving the problems of the sector, such as the shortage of road works, the difficult access to services such as health, education and human mobility, all as a consequence of inadequate road infrastructure. This project began with the socialization of the inhabitants of the Calgua sector. The area where the construction of the road is proposed was visited, and the topographic survey was carried out for two days with GPS RTK equipment. The Annual Average Daily Traffic (TPDA) was determined during a period of 7 days. The extraction of soil samples was carried out by means of the open pit method to carry out the granulometry, Atterberg limits, modified Proctor and CBR tests. Regarding the geometric design of the road, the MOP 2003 standard was used and the AASHTO-93 standard was used for the structural design of the flexible pavement, in addition to allowing a referential budget for the project to be made. Finally, TPDA results of 186 veh/day, a type of SM soil (clay sand), a design CBR of 9.7 percent, a road width of 11.20 m and a flexible pavement structural package of 40 cm were obtained, in addition to a referential budget of one million six hundred sixtyeight thousand eight hundred sixty-one dollars, 34/100 centsItem Mejoramiento del diseño geométrico de la vía que une los sectores de Cruz Loma- Palama, ubicada en la parroquia Salasaca y el Rosario del cantón Pelileo, provincia de Tungurahua(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2023-06) Moreta Supe, David Tarquino; López Arboleda, Alex GustavoThe development of a country or region depends to a greater extent on the condition of its roads, for these reasons it is essential to improve the roads, which will boost the productive and economic part of the sector under study influencing a better mobility of products and vehicles to travel along the road ensuring fluidity of communication between the beneficiaries. The present technical project starts with the observation in the territory of the current condition of the road, consequently we proceeded to the survey of the topographic strip where the road will be located, then we established the vehicle counting station where the volume of traffic was recorded for seven days for a period of eight hours obtaining the TPDA Annual Average Daily Traffic and the projection of future traffic in 20 years was established, The soil was also studied by means of moisture, granulometry, liquid and plastic limit, modified proctor, and the bearing capacity of the soil was determined by means of the CBR test. Subsequently, the horizontal, vertical and transversal geometric design was carried out in accordance with the regulations established by the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works, the flexible pavement design was obtained by means of the AASHTO-93 regulations, where the thicknesses adopted for the asphalt layer, base and subbase were specified. Finally, the cost of the project is specified through the analysis of unit prices. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2023-03) Ibarra Bombon, Alison Monserrath; Portilla Yandún, Favio PaúlThe lack of information on the type of soil in a place slows down the construction process, so expanding the database of roads guarantees a guide for the preliminary design of pavements. The present experimental work aims to determine the correlation between the CBR, DCP, index and mechanical properties of the Pujilí and La Victoria parishes, belonging to the Pujilí canton, Cotopaxi province. The tests carried out in the field were: field density (cone and sand) and DCP, while the laboratory tests with a sample of approximately 50 kg for each point were: Atterberg limits, specific gravity, moisture content, granulometry, compaction and CBR. Each of these tests were carried out in accordance with AASHTO standards. Once the results of the respective field and laboratory tests were obtained, the analysis of both simple and multiple correlations between the different soil properties was carried out in order to determine the soil characteristics. Finally, a traffic study was carried out for the structural design of the flexible pavement of one of the roads where representative soil samples were taken. The CBR values used were those obtained from the laboratory and from the correlations obtained. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2023-03) Solís Carrasco, Verónca Alexandra; Chérrez Gavilanes, Diego SebastiánThe Cruzpamba road has serious problems throughout its road design, because it is in precarious conditions, this road connects two rural parishes, Garcia Moreno and El Rosario; with the improvement of this road we seek to benefit the economy of this sector. In order to improve this road, a topographic study was carried out and a 100-meter strip was selected to identify the current conditions of the terrain. The T.P.D.A. was carried out to determine the type of road; a manual count was made during 7 days for 12 hours to obtain the projected T.P.D.A., thus deducing that the road is a class III road according to the M.T.O.P.. Another important aspect is to know the physical and mechanical properties of the soil, several tests were performed such as moisture content, granulometry, Atterberg limits, modified Proctor type B and CBR, concluding that the type of soil in the area is a well graded sand with low plasticity silts according to the AASHTO classification; the CBR is between 11 to 20 percent and it is considered a regular - good quality soil and can be used as subgrade, therefore it does not need improvement, when the soil study was completed, the pavement was designed. Finally, two proposals were made for the geometric design due to the complexity of the terrain in order to select the best option and thus determine the unit price analysis, calculate work volumes and estimate the reference budget. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2022-03) Lozada Sánchez, Tatiana Josselyn; Frías Torres, Alex XavierThe following degree project is part of a macro research that is being carried out in the province of Tungurahua, taking into account the parish and cantonal division, which seeks to determine correlations among the different index and mechanical properties of the soil, considering mainly the DCP test and CBR, in order to obtain the same results as the CBR, but in less time and cost through the DCP test. The tests are determined from soil samples collected in the La Matriz and El Triunfo parishes of the Patate canton, Tungurahua province. The tests carried out are: Atterberg limits, specific gravity, granulometry, compaction, CBR, field density with the Otawa sand cone method, and the dynamic penetration test; With the obtained results from the aforementioned tests, they are analyzed, determining the type and characteristics of the soil. Next, 23 correlations were obtained, applying statistical methods of simple regression and least squares. These correlations ranged from acceptable to excellent, with coefficients of determination between 50 and 99 percent. Finally, the design of the flexible pavement was carried out, using the CBR obtained in the laboratory, and also, based on the CBR of the proposed correlations. Obtaining the same characteristics in both designs, it is confirmed that the correlations are acceptable and can be used for the pre-design of asphalt on similar soils. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2021-09) Martínez Carabajo, Max Bryan; Bayas Altamirano, Myriam MarisolFor this technical project, the main objective was to obtain the geometric design and pavement structure of the Pinllopata - El Corazón road in the Km 7 + 900 - Km 11 + 800 section, belonging to the Pangua canton of the Cotopaxi province, thus improving the quality of life and the socioeconomic activity of the sector. To start the project, a visit and socialization of the project was carried out, then a topographic survey was carried out with the help of a drone, this allowed us to obtain the existing characteristics of the road and its surroundings, these being the width of the road, houses and constructions close to the study path. Once the characteristics of the sector were obtained, soil samples were taken to find out its properties and quality, based on these results obtained, the pavement structure was designed, as well as the existing vehicular count on the road was carried out manually. , which allowed us to make the geometric design of it. Finally, a referential budget was made which will serve as the basis for the residents of the sector to request the execution of the project, since it will be found as part of a collaboration between the Autonomous Decentralized Government of Pangua and the Technical University of Ambato.
