(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2025-02) Pallo Vinueza, Gerson Asdrubal; Castro Solorzano, Fidel Alberto
The supply of drinking water is of vital importance to all inhabitants worldwide, so the supply must be efficient and adequate, but currently the existing distribution system in the Jaloa el Rosario community does not provide the adequate service that users need, since the distribution system has fulfilled its useful life, therefore, the proposal to improve the drinking water system was made. It began with the delimitation of the study area that was facilitated by the president of the Jaloa el Rosario community, to later carry out a topographic survey with a drone, a survey was also carried out where the population registry was updated, through the survey carried out the quality of the service was also known and to know if the pressure of the water with which it reaches their homes is adequate, on the other hand, through field visits each of the components of the existing drinking water system was evaluated, through the evaluation it was determined that the system has many deficiencies since visible leaks could be seen in the pipes. Through the use of a pressure gauge, a hydraulic evaluation was carried out, where the existing pressures were measured. Finally, a proposal for improvement of the SDAP was developed, so that community users have a safe and efficient service, where the design period is 25 years, with a future population of 735 inhabitants. On the other hand, the design proposal was also modeled through an engineering program, modeling the system in a static and dynamic state. After the design proposal was made, a reference budget was developed for an amount of $135,167.90 US dollars, with its respective schedule where it is presented that for the construction of the design proposal it will be developed in a time of 5 months.

In recent years, Ecuador has tried to improve its competitiveness compared to other countries in its road infrastructure, however, not all areas of the country have managed to optimize their road network. Without going any further, the quality of the Cotopaxi Road network has been overshadowed by its neighboring provinces, which is why the need arises to address new projects that contribute to the evolution of the infrastructure. To contribute to this objective, road studies were carried out following the processes dictated by the MTOP 2003 regulations. Starting with the survey of the topographic strip using an RTK device that revealed that the road was in mountainous terrain. The traffic study indicated that the TPDA for a design period of 20 years would be 778 vehicles/day, classifying the road as a CLASS III collector. With this information, the geometric redesign was carried out, adjusting the existing road to a new layout that complies with the parameters suggested by the standard and also without exceeding very large cut and fill areas. The structural package was designed based on the AASHTO-93 Method using the design CBR obtained in the soil study, finally the minimum and recommended thicknesses for subbase, base and asphalt layer are configured. Finally, the road design proposal was evaluated, and an estimated budget was developed, providing a clear view of the resources required and facilitating accurate planning for future project implementation.

The present technical project of a road nature originates in response to the vehicular growth experienced by the Mocha-Pinguilí road, which has a direct impact on the geometric layout of the road. Currently, vehicles have difficulties when taking curves that do not have an adequate radius for efficient mobility. Likewise, as this is a commercial route, heavy truck traffic is common, so the current roadway width and pavement structure do not satisfy the growth of vehicles. This project began with a topographic survey using RTK equipment, followed by a traffic study using the 30th hour method. The soil study involved taking samples of the subgrade every 500 meters to analyze its characteristics and properties in the laboratory by means of moisture content, granulometry, Atterberg limits, modified Proctor type B and CBR tests. The geometric layout was made using the Ecuadorian standard MOP-2003, and some suggestions were taken from the standards: Peruvian DG-2018 and AASHTO-2018. The pavement design was developed according to the AASHTO-93 methodology and finally the project's referential budget was made. As a result, an undulating-mountainous relief was determined; the traffic study established a TPDAf of 2,762 vehicles/day and a number of equivalent axles of 1,716,466. A design CBR of 17.72% was determined. The geometric design established a 4-lane roadway and a reference budget of 2'153,849.70

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2024-08) Poaquiza Galarza, Juan Sebastian; Cañizares Proaño, Byron Genaro
This Technical Project was carried out with the purpose of improving the Geometric Design of the road since it is currently deteriorated due to constant use and external phenomena, which does not have a pavement structure designed in accordance with current regulations, thus harming the mobility, quality of life and economy of the inhabitants of the sector. First, the existing parameters of the road were determined, such as: topographic survey, traffic study and determination of the physical and mechanical properties of the soil. Based on these parameters, a proposal was made to improve the geometric layout of the road, taking as a reference the provisions of the MTOP 2003, NEVI-12 and DG-peruana standards. Likewise, the design of the wearing course was carried out using the AASHTO-93 methodology. Finally, a referential budget was prepared for the improvement proposal. The proposal was structured according to the information gathered, its classification and functionality was established based on the TPDA, the thicknesses of each of the layers were determined considering the bearing capacity of the soil, and two cross sections were proposed. Finally, a referential budget was prepared, which considered different items with their corresponding unit prices and technical specifications. The purpose of this proposal is to provide better mobility to the inhabitants of the sectors so that they can carry out their usual and economic activities in a fast, efficient and safe manner.

Currently, the distribution system in San Francisco parish does not provide quality service even though it is practically new. On the other hand, the distribution system does not completely cover the parish, causing the inhabitants to look for other sources of supply. The present project has been carried out to improve and expand the system. Initially, the study area was delimited by means of the canton's cadastre, then a topographic survey was carried out with the help of an RTK. With the georeferenced plans of the existing potable water system, the system was evaluated and it was found that the storage tank of the study parish had a conduction network that fed the tank of the San Luis parish, so this parish was also analyzed. An evaluation was made both physically and hydraulically where deficiencies were found. Then, the existing system was modeled for scenarios in static and dynamic state, resulting that the two parishes presented problems of velocities and pressures. In the proposal to improve the existing system and expand it, two pressure regulating valves were installed in San Francisco parish and three pressure regulating valves were installed in San Luis three pressure regulating valves were installed, which optimized the pressures to 100 percent. The velocities in the two sectors were not optimized to 100 percent, so it was suggested that bleed valves be installed. Finally, a budget and schedule were prepared.

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2024-02) Saransig Velásquez, Wilmer Stalyn; Moreira Cedeño, Fricson Lutgardo
The road project addressing the connection between the Llangahua, Silipo, and Pinllopata communities, located in the provinces of Tungurahua and Cotopaxi, emerges in response to the identification of the need to establish a road connection. This approach aims to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants, reduce product transportation times, and foster social and economic development in the region. A rigorous topographic survey and soil studies were carried out, including Grain Size Analysis, Atterberg Limits, Modified Proctor, and CBR (California Bearing Ratio) analysis. The soil classification as non-plastic or low-plasticity clayey sand, along with a design CBR of 8.10 percent, laid the foundations for the planning of the pavement structure. Simultaneously, the traffic study determined a projected Design Traffic Volume (TPDA) of 94 vehicles/day for a 20-year design period, classifying the road as a Class IV Collector according to the regulations of MTOP 2003. The horizontal, vertical, and transverse design was adjusted in accordance with these regulations, ensuring its coherence with established parameters. Based on the information gathered about soil characteristics and traffic flow, the pavement structure was defined, considering effective thicknesses to ensure the functionality and safety of the road. Finally, as a result, the quantification of the work was carried out to obtain a reference budget for the technical project, providing a clear understanding of the necessary resources and facilitating precise planning for the execution of the proposal.

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2024-02) Tenelema León, Jenyfer Melanhy; Moreira Cedeño, Fricson Lutgardo
The current road project arises from the need to establish a connection between the areas of Llangahua, Silipo, and Pinllopata, aiming to create new trade routes that boost educational levels, foster socio-economic activity, and expand markets for local products and raw materials. These actions also aim to reduce poverty, minimize travel times, and lower transportation costs. The technical project began with a topographical survey using a drone, considering the terrain characteristics. Subsequently, a traffic study was conducted, revealing a TPDA of 94 veh/day for a 20-year projection, classifying the road as a Class IV Collector. Horizontal, vertical, and transversal geometric design followed the guidelines of the MTOP 2003 regulations. Soil samples were extracted and laboratory-tested to determine their physical and mechanical properties, identifying a low to non-plastic sandy loam soil with high moisture content and a design CBR of 7.05 percent. These results guided the pavement design in accordance with the AASHTO 1993 standards, obtaining suitable thicknesses considering traffic and soil properties. Finally, the project was quantified, and a reference budget was obtained, subject to changes due to variations in unit prices over time. Nevertheless, it provides an understanding of the necessary resources and facilitates proper planning for project execution.

At present, the Mollepamba neighborhood, in the Saquisilí canton, has a gravity distribution system which is not working correctly, because it is about to reach its useful life of 25 years, which has brought overpressure failures in the pipes due to the fact that they do not have pressure regulating valves and deterioration in the distribution tank. It started with a topographic survey of the entire neighborhood, with the help of a drone and RTK, applying the photogrammetry technique. Site visits were made to assess the conditions of the land, the reserve tank and the pipes that carry the water. The distribution system was modeled with the help of simulation software (EPANET) in a static and dynamic state, for which it was identified that there are deficiencies, for which it was determined that it would be necessary to propose an optimization in the existing design. The drinking water distribution system is made up of a length of 4.33 km of pipes, which are distributed throughout the neighborhood, the sector has an area of 50 ha of land, its hydraulic design was carried out under static and dynamic scenarios, based on design parameters in accordance with national regulations. The project includes evaluation matrices, calculation memory, network plans, and the implementation of reducing valves; in addition to a technical-economic analysis in which a referential budget and technical specifications are presented.
